1st off im happy there is a fitness board here now:dance:

now i hate the gym because no matter where i go after a month i end up seeing some friends who go there or meeting some broads not that there is anything wrong with finding new puss but im trying to do my hour then bounce.

so since november my routine includes mon - fri 100-200 push ups a day and with some jogging added in i've lost a good 13 lbs.now that the holiday food has passed imma up it to about 300-500 every other day to rest up and i plan on copping a jump rope to add to my cardio. anybody else had good results with push up routines?

Yeah I did some bout 4-5 years ago when hurt.

Pretty good workout, but I prefer dips.

Push ups works more then one muscle group at a time, that why i love them.
Getting stronger means more than one muscle group working together
to provide force,so push ups hits like 3 or 4 muscles at one time, you might not get "big",but you will get strong,100/200 3x a week is perfect.

push ups are great for just getting that upper body shape so you can look good in your clothes and what not...

ricky henderson does about a couple of hundred push ups at night and that is how he kept his physique late in his career

I hate push-ups, but they are necessary. It's a core exercise that you can't replace. I do 100 before bed. (But not if I've done chest that day.)

- what about doing 4 sets of 25 with rests in between..I've been on a big macs and xbox360 diet for a few years

That's cool. I'm actually going to start doing 3 sets to failure...but at least 100.

I've been fucking with the Perfect Pushup the last couple of days. That shit is no joke. I woke up the other day feeling like a did a heavy chest day. I like the way it leaves you feeling afterwords...definitely gonna keep these as part of the workout

Recommended routine?

I would say 200-300 per day.

Those of you who do 100-300 daily, do you guys do those straight or do you split them into sets. The reason I ask is because I'm trying to 'get back' as well and instead of going straight to the weights like I did last year I've been doing the following:

Mon-Fri

This is all one set, I guess you would call this a superset?

15 push-ups...then 15 dips...then 20 crunches...3X

I started this just last week...any suggestions?

That is a very good start. I would also add in some pull-ups. I have never been a fan of the many fitness apparatuses out there but I just bought the perfect push-up bars and have been very impressed with them. You can do them in many variations and really hit the chest and bi's.

i do either 20 sets of 10 reps (1 set every 3 minutes for an hour) or 10 sets of 20 (1 set every 6 minutes for an hour).

my upper body has filled out in all the areas i was lacking musculature.

i LOVE the results.

push ups are the shyt, I incorporate a weight vest.... and superset my pushups with bend over rows.... trust I faster results well at least for me....

I also must do crunchs and leg lifts since I have such a slow metabolism but, doing this at least three times a week regulates it...

yea a gym is really for those who like to have the presence of others around when they work out....

P.s

I live in a building with over forty floors so I am able to run the stairs, ok walk the stairs and its a much better work out than the treadmill, you get the cardio and better resistance....

protein shakes and tons of fruits and veggies a must...

I would show a picture of my results but thats gay....

Push ups are the best to work the chest, arms, shoulders and back.

doing a 100 or more 3 times a week is a good routine.

for those who have trouble I would recommed grabbing some perfect push ups. I have used them and they are great.

I was wondering if those made any difference, or just another useless thing on tv.

I'm gonna try this, thanks

if you're new to it, build up to that.

try ten reps for as many sets as you can, and if you burn out early (say around 5 sets) then keep going but do as many as you can per set (3 reps, 5 reps, etc)

Been doing 50 when I get up and 50 before I go to sleep and it makes a difference. More than a few jawns (Philly word meaning females) at work and outside of work have made positive comments on the pecs.

about 3 years ago, i did about 300 push-ups everyday for a few months(in addition to a regular workout). i was advised that i wasn't giving my chest any chance to recover and grow with the everyday routine. i know do a split routine over the course of a week. it works pretty well, but i must say that i've discovered that rest and diet are really important to good muscle growth.

That's how Herschel and Bo Jackson used to stay in shape.

I've been meaning to do a few push ups on non work out days.

I know alot of you ol' heads already know this but I thought I'd drop for the rookies:

You have to work you back when doing alot of pushups. if you dont balance the muscular development of the shoulder you open yourself up to a host of chronic shoulder problems. b careful!

:yes::yes:

i haven't knocked out 100 striaght in minute! i've been on that big mac diet too! but i'm tryin to get back in shape now. I'm doing 2x2x50's:smh:

Peace
First off... GLAD that turned this into a forum!!

in any event.

I am about to go hard on a routine.. I have been low on the motivation side of things and when i start i end up stopping. I have great genetics..the min i touch the ground i see results. But i am getting older now so it demands more work and consistency

I was thinking about doing more alternations on the push ups.. Incline 4X 25, Flat 4x25 pyramid 4x10 (they hurt my wrist) and maybe wide grip 4x10

I started my push up regime about 3 days ago.. in fact the date i made my last post in this topic.
Did the 4 sets of 25 flat push ups and later the first day (23rd) did the 4 sets of incline (with feet on a box)
the next day i got into some Thugworkout shit.. lol..me and my youngest son went out side and did some dips and pull ups.. (Could only do about 8 dips at the max before it hurt .. them shits hurt. not in a "ow i'm straining way." more like.. "this some fucked up yoga shit"
anyway.. did some pull ups.. could only get a max of 5 of them jokers in a set.
then i did another variation of dips with legs on the floor and i knocked out 3 sets of ten
that shit had my whole right side hurting

anyway today i went hard now that i broke the ice.. got my 4 sets in on both styles of pushups back to back.. then hit that Ab Ripper X (p90x) then a lil while later got into some curls and fore arm work

just throwing it out there for anyone else tryna get motivated.. never hurts to know someone else is getting they ass kicked by that work out. but belive it or not i can already feel my body reacting.

You see them dips and pulls are the shit, dont ya? You want some forearm work? Wrap a thick towel around the bar you doing the pulls with and do some pull ups, do the same with dips. Your forearms will burn like a muthafucka.

I lift 3 times a week....adding the perfect pushup to this workout should help me get some more pec growth?

Been hitting really good numbers but need something to get me to the next level...

This is a great addition to the site

I've got to have the worst job for staying in shape in life. I work the graveyard shift at a helpdesk. So what I do is at the top of every hour I knock out 50 push ups and on the half I do a stretching exercise. Believe me midway thru the shift it's a struggle to muscle failure to finish the set. But I feel and see the results. Seems the biggest thing is the effect it has on my posture which causes my shoulders to roll back and me not to slouch.

You mean so as to increase the width of the grip?
yeah i am going to try that .. I want to get to the point I can do solid sets of 8.. right now i am barely breaking 5 pull ups.. shit is discouraging (a little ) but u know how that goes

But now that i broke the ice things are feeling better.. The dips are challenging.. and they hurt a bit.. I weigh 220 at 5 7 stocky muscular but I need to drop at least 30 lbs to be in great shape

Shit 5'7 220 and can still get 5 in?????? Yeah you got a decent foundation bruh.

As you drop the weight dont forget that you are pulling up less and need to increase the intensity.

Cats like you look impressive 40lbs less and you got 220 and can still handle bodyweight, and with your functional strength you working with something, keep it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would give you more advice but I hate you thick short ass cats that make the game look so easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can someone give me a quick heads up on the different types of push-up in terms of width of hands? I have a slight problem with my left elbow (old sports injury)and it sometimes clicks and gets stiff, so I use a wider stance on push-ups, get more for the chest but don't know if i'm neglecting other areas because of this?

I also work on the chest as I have free weights for arms etc, but no bench for bench presses and want a balanced look to my upper body...

If it makes any difference I always worked out a little everyday, just to keep toned, but I recently quit smoking (I know) and am taking this a lot more seriously now with diet etc...

ANY advice appreciated..

I do lots of different variations on the pushup, different hand widths, feet up on a chair, using handles so I go lower, standing on my hands with my feet against the wall etc... Since I'm already as large as I have any desire to be, bodyweight exercises, push-ups, dips, pull-ups, chin-ups, squat-thrusts etc., have become my primary work-out.

Trust me that 5 get done with pure will power!!
I gotta swing by the gym to see what my accurate weight is but it has to be in that area.

Now that i broke the ice i am ramping it up to sets of 30 push ups. with alternating days of that Ab ripper x.. (p90) .. that right there bro... that is harder than any number of push ups i could try to do.. lol..

But i'm feeling good .. all i need now is to get some diet disciplen. I eat too much sugar and goo..

thanks for the motivation and encouragement!

Let us know how its going!!!!!

man let me tell you bro.. them five pull ups are pure torture .. But i am determined to get that solid 8 per set in

Thing is i grew up playing on the monkey bars.. so i got a great core.. now when is say grew up playing on the monkey bars.. i'm talking about all day every day.. not them cheap square shits in the projects.. our shits were some elaborate shit that became an artform in my neighborhood.
SO my upper body strength is incredible.. even at 36 years old.. i still retain remnants of all that time on them bars..

but the weight and time since i played on them cause a loss in my forearm strength and grip. So that what really keeps me from doing more ..

I'm going to work up to 8 reps and add that towel tech to it.
wanna focus on form as well as technique

thanks for the encouragement .. it's what i need right now..

Shit you didnt build the goodyear rubber round your waist overnight, you aint gonna loose it overnight, but we all know what a couple of weeks can do for ya.

No reason when you go out for valentines dinner in a couple weeks you shouldnt have to poke new holes in your belt to keep ya dam pants up so you dont look like one of these thugs out here.
