I imagine you could find a cheaper alternative.

If you need protein on the go, then they're well worth it. So are RTDs (ready to drink). Shit basically depends on your level and obsession with lifting and nutrition. If you are planning to consume 6-8 meals a day, then a protein bar would be benificial. if not, then you'll survive without them. Just get your protein from other sources then. And protein bars generally aren't expensive. A supply of 24 can be had for 26-30$ with 20g of protein. Look around.

I agree...
I used protien bars because they were convienient when i was on a busy schedule. Now i have time to make protien shakes and dont need them anymore. The most important thing is to get protien in your body immediatley after your workout whether its from a bar, or a drink.

Its hard for me to get all that protein because I minimize consumption of meat. The bars were helpful but I hated the taste, and sometimes I couldn't stomach another shake.
I make my own protein bars and thats much better.
protein bars are great way to keep your daily protein intake at a high
also helps to keep you from getting to hungry at meal time
i buy pure protein bars, they taste fucking great, and they just reformated their formula and it taste even better now, but it dropped from 32g of protein per bar to 29g

Some bars are better than others so the trick is to read the labels. Just know that things like granola bars are load with fats so you don't want them. Buy one of those and you may as fell hae a Snickers.
I've tried several different bars and the best one I've tasted is the Muscle Milk bars. They also have a nice texture.
