Ok, so I'm trying to lose 20 lbs. I am a female. I am 5'10 and weigh 167 lbs. I try to eat healthy but I always wind up messing up on my diet. There is just too much good food out there. My mind tells me to leave the pizza, ice cream and chinese food alone, but something in me is always craving this junk. Then I just tell myself it's ok because there is always tomorrow. It's a vicious cycle and I really want eat healthy all the time. I used to be able to eat whatever I want and not gain a pound but since I turned 30 it's been downhill all the way. How do you manage to lay off the fattening foods and maintain a healthy diet?

It's all about moderation. You can have pizza every now and then...but not every week. You can have a "cheat day" every now and then, and not feel guilty about it.

Substitute. Eat fresh fruit as a between meal snack. Eat small portions of dark chocolate with high percentages of cocoa (70%) if you're having a candy jones. Up your protein intake, that knocks out the carb cravings. Drink more water instead of sweet drinks. Do sorbet instead of ice cream.

Don't watch the damn Food Channel! They'll have you craving all sorts of shit. Barbecue week messed me up REAL bad! :smh:

And like Bruha said, everything in moderation.

I definitely would try drinking water or water flavored with some sort of sweetener (Crystal Light has good ones) to quench a craving first. Prepare for those cravings first (meaning, be proactive) by having things around the house that are good substitutes for it. Make a low fat pizza at home instead of calling Pizza Hut; it'll take just as much time and be healthier for you. And, like the other posters said, its ok to, every now and then, have something fattening. Just limit it to once every two weeks or so.

MIND over MATTER. It basically comes down to WANTING IT. I mean there is no other way to put it. You got 20lbs to drop, you got to WANT IT more than that donut.

Lets face it, the donut will still be there when you drop the weight, thats when you do MODERATION, and set a certain weight you wont go over, lets say 5lbs above your target weight.

Think about it like this, most people do not have that focus, just knowing you have that focus and discipline that others cannot even get close to will give you a "high" feeling. Knowing you can control your urges and set goals AND achieve them.

Aint shit that junk food got on that. 3 minutes you feel good and than feel like shit the rest of the day.

Once you hit that goal, go strict during the week and be loose on the weekend and try to stay within 5lbs of your target weight.

Whatever it is you have cravings for, learn to make it yourself. I used to be a hardcore junkie for Mexican food but then I started cooking my own, with fresher healthier ingredients, now the greasy shit at fast food restaurants disgusts me. I even started baking my own tortilla chips using corn tortillas, olive oil and basil.

Same with pizza, if you aint tryin to toss your own pizzas, get some focaccia bread, some marinara sauce (has the lowest sodium of pasta sauces that I can think of offhand), some part skim mozzarella cheese and whatever ingredients you want for toppings and bake it up. Craving ice cream? Try mochi balls.

It's not that you can't have the things you like, just make it yourself and you can monitor what goes in it. And portions are key, whenever I cook something I never finish it, I save it for later that night or the next day for lunch.

First couple times you try it, you might end up with some shit like this:

But it's only because you're used to the grease and bullshit you been eating.
