View Full Version : Sup fitness heads can you all tell me if soy is good for men?
Does soy protein cause a rise in estrogen and erectile dysfunction in men? I have heard many arguments for and against soy protein in powder form and in crumbles and veggie burgers made by companies such as morningstar and I wanted to see how yall feel about this.

I drink soy, no problems. I have heard the same shit, for and against.
I say moderation(which is what i do) with this is key just to be safe, since no side is winning the study argument.
True I have to agree that sounds like the best approach. Have you tried any of the morningstar products? How much soy do you take on a day to day basis? By the way thanks for the response.

Yeah, it can go either way but I do believe in the estrogenic effects of excess isolated soy products. Moderation like gene mentioned if you want to consume it, and if I do consume soy I stick to a more asian paradigm of fermented soy products like miso or tempeh Or the bean (edamame). I can't stomach too much tofu, but I can have it in soup. Tofu and fish or a fish broth are very common. I used to do the morningstar quite a bit, but when I decided to limit pre processed foods fake meat was the first to go. They do taste pretty good.
If you can find it try Quorn (its at the whole foods markets)- its actually a very good meat substitute made from egg whites and a mushroom derivative. Pretty good protein, super lean.
Just try to mix it up a bit rather than all soy all the time. My 2.

i've read that soy raises estrogen levels in men, which could threaten your developing bitch tits, ED, or gaining hard to lose fat.

Yeah there's a lot of research either side. As a woman I err on the side of caution because some cancers of the breast are hormone dependent and being still of child bearing age I don't want anything messing with my natural hormone balance. However, its interesting that the rates of breast cancers in Asian cultures following a traditional diet is much lower than in the west. My feeling is the way we process and overconsume soy may have some ill effects, but its hard to separate that out from our low fiber, low nutrient western diets to establish a true causality.
Moderation to be safe :)

I been eating soy for 10, no wait?? 13 years! You gotta balance that shit out with yang supplements and "real" vegetables... moderations is key..There are many many soy alternatives from rice, oat and almond milk to tempeh(meat),Tvp, gluten etc... You need to find out if your allergic to soy and gluten products, some ppl are, I know I am
but I eat it anyway.. just not as much as I use too...
Find a good Certified Naturalpath/Holistic Healer in your area, and get a allergy test done..

actually that works out better for us both. my wife would track you down and beat you like a field slave (2nd level black belt) then come back and MURDER me (extensive drug knowledge).
so guess you'll have to keep those puppies to yourself for both our sakes.

I recently switched from Lactaid to Soy Milk. I actually just tried soy cheese for the first time today and it was pretty damn good. But that's about as far as my soy intake goes.
BTW...I had no idea Izayoi was a female...good to see sisters staying in shape...and I love the natural hair...

Yes Kwaz! Soy is a very yin and cooling food (I've heard but cant verify that tofu can even be good for cooling a minor burn) and can be "dampening" in that paradigm of eating (TCM).
Balance!

We over do everything in the west. I believe we the only ones that super size shit. Nothing about the west is moderate. If somebody reads about the benefits of soy, guess what. They gonna eat/drink and breathe that stuff.
Thats our problem out here. If one aspirin helps, 3 must help that much better attitude.
Plus as we know what one persons body can tolerate anothers may not be able to.
