1 million new cases a year. 1 million. Yet the government is harassing muthafuckas that want HGH and are trying to stay healthier and younger.

Its amazing. Seem like with anything in america if it is messing with the whole country it is messing with our community worse. People really need to get it in gear

I had diabetes, and cured it through diet and exercise.

The "experts" say that there is no cure.

Kick that sugar and fat to the curb.

Yeah men...I see the fucken ads on TV and they are not trying to find a cure, but are FOREVER advertising a new diabetes meter or drug.

All these fucken fucks are trying to do is maintain a fucken cycle!!! I mean on one hand u advertise a diabetes drug, then followed by a FUCKEN commercial for MickyDees or som other bastard ass resturant. It's sad. I got diagnosed for diabetes this past summer, and I have controlled it via diet, and now exercise. Fuck the sugars and carbs, but we live in a capitalist society, and the powers that be will rather keep us unfit, and unhealthy so that we can continually buy drugs. It is scared the amount of diabetics out there. We need to inform our people about the importance of exercise, and a proper healthy diet. Bottomline the american diet is bad, and portion sizes are killing us. I mean all you see is UPSIZE, BIGGE this biggie that, carbs, carbs, carbs, fries, drinks...The list goes on.

Don't get me wrong, individual responsibility is also a factor. I did damage to myself. Due to the stress of college and work, I barely worked out, and was killing...I mean KILLING energy drinks (damn, I miss Full Throttle, and Sobe Adrenaline :smh: I was bad with them, and I haven't touched one since last March), and just eating whatever was quick on the go. Years of this will catch up with you.

Gradually, I have improved my diet (not the easiest thing to do), and started exercising. I refuse to remain or depend on a drug, or have to get on insulin. NEVER!!!

More power to my folks out there but please lets try to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Again MODs thanks for this fitness forum. Much appreciated.

You got that right!

Another thing is that the neo-experts are trying to confuse Americans about what constitutes a proper diet. On the one hand they establish a food pyramid, with fruits, grains, and vegetables at the bottom; and sugars and fat at the top - a good start. Then the spin doctors replace the word sugar with "carbs", and say "carbs" are bad. Fruits, grains, and vegetables are carbs. Plus, Americans are taught to believe that being on top is good.

There is a difference between a plain baked potato, and a potato chip. Hint: it's not the carbs. Ditto potato skins; french fries; au grautin; candied yams; smothered in butter, gravy, or bacon bits; etc.

The same can be said about milk vs. milk shake; broiled chicken vs. KFC; salad vs. salad dressing, and so on.

High blood sugar, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol constitute the three prongs of the trident that the devils use to attack the health of Black America. They use the American diet, the American workplace, and the American environment. They try to blame it on genetics, but we know that our grandparents didn't have these illnesses.

Diet, exercise, and relaxation are our three pronged counter-attack. (Note: relaxation does not mean absorbing the high stress entertainment provided by the American media - denigrating news, TV, movies, music, books and magazines.)

Good for you Mad. People don't understand that if you are type 2 non insulin dependent you may never have to go on insulin BUT you must self manage hard core and stop bsing with your diet and exercise. If you are type 1 it's different. If your body just has stopped producing insulin the only "cure" will likely come from stem cell research or some other advanced medical technology. There are some small studies with stem cells overseas.

C/S Garifuna!

I ran across a study last year (maybe I can find the link) it was a cross cultural analysis of high blood pressure -not just African Americans but people of African descent all over the world as well as Europeans. When looked at across the diaspora people of African descent do not have significantly higher bp's than other cultures (Easter Europeans have a high risk of hbp and heart disease too.) While there are some theories about Africans and salt sensitivity that may have some believability we are by no means genetically flawed to suffer from these diseases. Lifestyle and stress matter!
