Did you make any good gains in your lifts? Don't worry so much about weight unless you need to go up a weight class for something. If you gain weight too fast it turns to fat.

I am not a big milk fan, put I will tell you that whole cows milk will put on serious weight. If you are busting your ass in the gym you will gain alot more muscle than fat.

After you get to your target weight ditch the dam cows milk and eat a balance diet with enough calories to support your weight, but that gallon of day milk thing will blow you the fuck up if you are busting your ass in the gym.

Of course there are tons of ways to gain weight(muscle), remember just adding 500 calories a day will get you to gain muscle, I just like the whole cows milk, and dont forget the peanut butter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cats in the joint get on swole eating ho hos and all kind of high carb junk, they just work out CONSTANTLY, then get plenty of rest cause they have nothing else to do. If your job aint physical you can get pretty big fast!!!!!!

You think these big yoked up muthafuckas you see coming out getting skinless chicken breast and brown rice.

In every gym I go to I see tons of people trying to eat six meals a day, chicken breasts and brown riced out with really no muscle gains to show for it, then one of my partners comes out from a 18month bid 20-30lbs heavier, mostly muscle and he eat like fucking rosanne barr. Working out every day.

1.5-2 grams (and higher) protein x bodyweight.

If you weigh 175, that means you'd have to consume 262-350 grams of protein a day in order to gain mass.

Your best bet is to slowly increase your daily caloric and protein intake and supplement with protein powder.

eggs, chicken breast, lean beef, peanut butter, milk, tuna, salmon, blah blah blah are excellent protein sources.

Having to eat 6-8 times a day just to stimulate growth seems impossible when you first begin, but to be honest, after awhile, the shit is NOTHING. Fuck, 6-8 meals most of the time isn't even enough for me. Just make sure you have paper, because shit can be pricey!

the_monsterous_monster

And the protein amount is debateable. Some believe in 1.5, I believe in consuming as much as fucking possible in a day. But that really depends on your stomach's tolerance.

on the real.. after all is said and done it's about your metabolism and (age) I tried to gain for years and believe me I was not lacking in the amount of my caloric intake. When I hit around 30 I filled out. What u need to do is find out what boxers do when they move up in weight.

Oh yeah I started out on the bench with the normal 135lb(2plates) and 20lb dumbells in between.Struggling...was telling my boy all I want to be able to lift is 225lb.He said man your frame and height is going to make you lift 350lb.I haven't got to 350lb but I can do 6plates which is 315lb our dumbells only go up to 60 pounds. But if you look at me you would be like he's cut but not big.I'am have to try that gallon a milk a day sounds like it works. Thanks for all of yall advice.I think the difference between us regular joes and body builders is..It's hard to find the time in the day to eat six meals a day or drink a gallon of milk. With your regular 9-5.Where do you guys find the time to eat 6 meals a day?Because I'am always racing out the house for work and then racing to the daycare to pick up my kid.

Anyway get the gallon of whole milk and upon waking drink a bout 32oz. Dont chug the shit, carry on with your routine while sipping. Before bed(I know its heracy ) drink 32oz of it again. A gallon by itself is round 2500 calories, if you dont get big and strong with that it is your workouts and your gym intensity.

Definately going to try that gallon of milk idea. I'm surprised I haven't heard of it sooner. I had heard about some of its advantages while I was in college but all I was told was that it was a good post workout drink and helped get rid of the lactic acid that builds up in the muscles.

I think its 100 million americans would love your problem, 2 junior whoopers for a snack and lean as hell.

Did you try the peanut butter yet with the gallon of whole milk.

2 tablespoon is 200 dam calories!!!! bout 15 grams of fat and bout 8 grams of protein, thereabouts. The fat is "good fat".

You really should one day count your calories and come back and tell us how many you eat, that way we could help better and have an idea whats going on.

I understand that every individual is different, but obviously you are going about putting on muscle mass entirely wrong. I would like to know how much weight you were lifting, your workout intensity, and your meal plan ( protein and caloric intake, and how many meals you were consuming ). To be 6'0" and weigh 140-145 strongly reflects an inability to dedicate ones lifestyle and nutrition to the art of weight-lifting. I began at 6'1" and 175lbs. Within about 6 months of heavy lifting, I was at 225lbs. The biggest I've been was 275lbs, but I currently hover at anywhere between 225-250 depending on the time of year. It's still not too late for you to attain your goals, if its something that you really want for yourself!

I was also slim and tall but I managed to gain over 25 pounds over two years. I boosted my caloric intake to about 5000 calories a day. I'm not a real big eater so I would normally eat 3-4 meals per day and used Twin Lab Super Gainers Fuel, which is a weight gainer powder that you can add water or milk. The Super Gainers Fuel provides 1860 calories per serving. I drink Muscle Milk Light protein shakes after I workout and one before I go to sleep.

The guy that gave the advice about eating chicken breast, eggs, etc. is also correct.

Good luck.

As of today I've put on 40 pounds in 3 years.

Heavy weights every time that I work out.

Increasing the portions of my meals and eating less meals throughout the day.

I've been able to slow my metabolism down so now it's still heavy weights to keep the gaining process going.

Only downside now is the fact that I've developed a bit slight gut (I had the 6 pack coming along nicely) because I stopped working out for a few months but I'm back in the gym now.

I got another 10 pounds to go before I stop with the gaining process.

No, not at all. Its just some peoples body need a kick in the ass from the calories found in things like whole milk and peanut butter, so why waste money on the protein powders also.

These people need to be in an overfeeding state, they just dont need extra protein, they need extra carbs and fats also. True protein helps build muscle, but other nutrients are need to fuel that process.

Alot of people in their quest for size only really raise protein intake, thats why most people never develop the look they are after. Raise all macros to get that muscle building process going.

Drinking Ensure & Boost, is one of the easiest/healthiest/expensive ways to put on weight that you can find, but it really works.

It's about 6-8 bucks a 6-pack, and they taste so good, that it's not a laboring ordeal. I recommended finding someone with a hook up, but it's "not" easy.

You guys are going to be running to the bathroom all day trying to drink a gallon of milk in 24hrs and not to mention kidney stones. No way are you going to be able to drink that much milk and still consume enough water.

(I'm 5'11) 5 years ago I was 165 and went to 180 (in 5 months) by working out really hard 3 times a week and eating a lot. Crazy thing is, it was unintentional...workingout became routine, like brushing my teeth.

I basically recommend working out really hard (with purpose), drinking whey protein shakes and eating plenty of salmon, tuna, peanut butter, black beans, brown rice, low fat milk, lean beef and eggs, while drinking plenty of water throughout the day.

If the average calorie intake is 2,000 is it true im supposed to up that to 2,500 for wieght gain? I logged my food intake for the day and i see why im slim. 1270cals and only about 63grs of protien (woke up late only had one big meal). I always been slim though, but i believe im near my hieght to weight ratio.
Im bou 5'8" and i stay at 135 -140lbs. I worked out in spurts but im tryin to get back on it.

I think im gonna have to use some weight gainer, or protien shakes one of the two... any reccomendations?

63g protein is NOTHING. Your first priority has to be to increase protein intake. You being 140lbs. means that you have to consume 140g-210g of protein daily in order to stimulate growth. You're also aware that your caloric intake has to increase as well. 5'8" and 140lbs. is kind of frail, kid. Get in the gym and bang it out. Also purchase wieght gainers or just normal whey protein. You also need to begin eating more and eating wiser, basically copious amounts of eggs, chicken, beef, peanut butter, milk, tuna, sardines, salmon, oatmeal, blah blah blah...

honestly you need to actually see a nutritionist or calculate your current daily calorie intake yourself. Monitor that for one week and average out the daily calories, from there you basically have to increase your caloric intake from whatever it is. So if you average 2000 calories just from a meal you need to supplement some whey protien or some other type of weight gainer in your diet so you can add lean muscle mass while you increase your caloric intake. the more you work out the harder it is to gain wait depending on you metabolism..

Set up an account on fitday.com count your calories for about a week. They have a free calorie counter on there. Whatever you're taking in increase it by 500-1000 calories a day. It'll also chart how many calories of fat, carbs and protein you take in. If you're taking in a lot of protein, you're going to take more fat and carbs in.

You might have to increase the number of meals you eat a day from 2-3 to 4-5. You're going to have to be consistent with that and over time you'll start to put on pounds the right way. You prolly have a fast metabolism, which means you're going to need to eat more meals.

I've had problems (some would say fortune) re: weight game my whole life as well. I've been the same dimensions (height weight) since like 7th grade (almost 30 now). I'm cut, and really active (used to play ball a few times a week ALL my life up until the past year or so -- all my boys gettin married or havin mid-life crisis that eats up they personal time - and still work out on the reg)..From what Ive concluded, my problems mostly come from these 2 facts:

1. I eat bad (alot of fast food, and I never finish my food/small appetite)
2. Im so active that I feel like I dont keep anything on that i consume. And my
metabolism is like whoa...

So lately I been making a concerted effort to really try to take this shit seriously and test my limits just to see whats up. Benn tryna eat better and reg (probably the most imp) and consuming:

What Are Some Of The Good Weight Gainers?

go to bodybuilding.com brova and check the forum on there. They have two sections dedicated to weight gainers and muscle/mass gainers. I did alot of research and weighed peoples opinions on that site. I came up with three for putting on weight via protein supplements:

1. Optimum Nutrition's Serious Mass
2. BSN's True Mass
3. Universal Real Gains

These three were favored the most amongst those who normally used weight gainers...

As for my situation, right now I just went to GNC and got the Optimum Nutrition Serious Mass (I initially went in their to get the ON 100% Whey protein but the customer rep talked me out of it). The Serious Mass has 50g of protein with roughly 1250 calories per serving in it. The GNC rep was trying to put me on to this GNC pro performance weight gainer product that had 2200 calories per serving:eek:...I was like that is too damn much...Right now Im 6'0 153...Im trying to get to 180...I was doing good for a while when I started working out hard after I recovered from my surgery...threw on 16 pounds but once I hit 150 its been a hard gain and I havent seen any improvements since february even though I was getting stronger and stayed in the weight room damn near 5-6 days a week...training fucked up my workout schedule and I just got demotivated...Now Im scrapping my whole diet and workout plan, coming with something new and going at it again...

I did take Boost and Ensure for a while but if your diet is horrendous then forget about it...

My question for the board is for anyone who has ever taken a powder supplement, did you mix it with only water or did you do the milk mix as well...Im thinking since Im taking this weight gainer powder that the water powder mix tastes somewhat bland, Im going to mix powder and milk and possibly through in some nesquik just for more flavor...

milk is an excellent choice (skim is best) but it depends on your body's ability to digest it. Plus milk adds calories, protein, and carbs.

There are a lot that you can buy but the best stuff is the kind you make yourself. Throw some 2% milk, whey protein powder, peanut butter, oats, and maybe even a banana (or some other fruit) in a blender and you'll get a ton of calories and protein without all the extra sugar and other garbage you'll find in the pre-made stuff.

Definitely go with milk when you're trying to gain weight. You'll end up with 10-30 extra grams of protein depending on how many ounces of milk you're supposed to use and a few hundred extra calories too. When you're trying to gain, you gotta take advantage of any opportunity to add more of those two.

how old are you..
most my life I was a skinny tall kid..
been working out off and on since I was 13
but
I was still a tall lean guy..
turned 25 I was 6'7" 235
got a gym membership
I'm now 29 6'7" 270 lbs
all muscle..
I started working out hard when my body was naturally started to fill out..
so the gains just starting coming like gangbusters..
age/metabolisim is very important..

you need a high carbohydrate/ high protein diet..
lean ground turkey/chicken breast/salmon/tuna..
all these are great lean protein sources

for the carbs stick to rice/pasta/potatos...

you need a whey protein source
drink it with whole milk(like everyone is telling you..
whole milk will bulk you up..)
drink the whey protein shake 1 hour before you workout
and right after you workout..

and don't forget the soda..

coca cola classic..

basically liquid sugar
tons of calories in soda..
but
YOU GOT TO BUST YOUR BUTT IN THE GYM
MODERATE WEIGHT/ MODERATE INTENSITY..
IT'S MORE IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE INTENSITY UP
THAN INCREASING THE WEIGHT...
IF YOU WANT TO BUILD MUSCLE(hypertrophy)

THE ONLY SUPPLEMENT I TAKE IS THE OPTIMUM 100% WHEY..
I WOULDN'T WORK OUT WITHOUT IT..

YOU GOT TO EAT FOOD..
IF YOU EATING A HIGH CARBOHYDRATE/HIGH PROTEIN DIET..
AND WORKING OUT HARD..
THE GAINS WILL COME..

and to add...after I play ball I go and smash my chic...I cant gain shit...the most I gained in a couple of months is 5lbs and I lose that in a day playin ball...I guess I'm not gonna gain weight till I get hurt or somethin...o well I am still in great shape....

I was 145 when i started weight training, Im now 180-185 took alot of protein 2-3 times a day mixed with fruits, also purple k (createn) after 3mnths of working out, i eat between 4-5 meals a day, sleep patterns should be consistant, lift heavy increase your weight each time your in the gym challenge yourself its all mental, stretch, and have a workout partner thats motivating.

Only do cardio twice a week 10-20mins.

AND WORK LEGS HARD, LEGS ARE THE FOUNDATION THE STRONGER YOUR LEGS THE STRONGER YOU CAN LIFT ALL AROUND, WORK YOUR LEGS.

GOOD LUCK
