Some of the relevant posts/suggestions from the post of which this is an offspring. If you want to summarize or expound it above CYBA you can.

CCNA - we all get the same material. From what I read on http://www.sadikhov.com, the CBT nuggets and the Cisco Press CCNA books / Study guides
we can start with ICND intro, small bite so we get a sense of accomplishment fast. We can start about 8-10 EST watch for an hour straight through.

Re: CCNA GROUP STUDY - (Get Yo Azz In Here!!!)
I think we all agreed that we will all start with the CBTs.
Please install it and watch the first video. We are still trying to find a way to do an online group discussion. Let me know if you can think of something.

Re: CCNA GROUP STUDY - (Get Yo Azz In Here!!!)
I've watched both the CBT and Train Signal set for CCENT/CCNA and I've taken the first test (ICND 1) and passed to receive the CCENT cert. I can say that CBT is more entertaining, but Train Signal goes WAY more into detail as far as concepts, and I think that if I didn't watch them both series, I might have failed. Problem is, Train Signal is just not as "fun", but like I said, the instructor on that course gives you a lot of concepts that you I actually could relate with on the test. Just make sure you on point with the subnetting. I'm studying for the ICND 2 test now to get the actual CCNA, and I can say that this one is very challenging as it goes real deep into routing protocols. I ended up buying a home lab off Ebay with like 4 routers and 1 switch for about $300, but if you want to practice with a good simulator, check out GNS3. With this simulator, you can load real Cisco IOS's inside the simulator and its basically the real deal. You will need to find the IOS's on somewhere like Torrentz.com.
Here is a the Ebook version of a book I just purchased from Todd Lammalle (sp?) and it is some good stuff I must say as a resource outside of video studying. It's up to date for the current CCNA and is hands down the best CCNA study book out there based on reviews. I used this as well to study for the first test, so I'll upload it for you guys...

I watched the first video today. I will watch it again tomorrow.

If you are just starting out Look at my advice in the other thread you posted a question in. You will probably do fine for now with software simulation. You can study with us but don't go spending money unnecessarily until you are sure that you want this. Peace

Re: CCNA GROUP STUDY - (Get Yo Azz In Here!!!)
Ok so I've been watching the CBT nuggets this week. I've watched 4 videos.
1. CCNA Concepts and hardware
2. IOS basics
3. Router components
4. The configuration file
I have a Cisco 800 that I been using to log in and run commands just to get the feel of it. I don't think I need a lab yet.
Does anyone have any tips on learning the different 802.11 protocols?
I know we are going to hit the OSI Model and subnetting. Anybody got tips for learning those? I don't want to memorize those jawns I want to KNOW them. Feel me?

Dynamips is a router emulator. Basically it takes real Cisco IOS images and lets you run them on a pc as it is emulating the hardware.
Its good because once you have a valid IOS you have all of the commands that a regular roouter does. so you can run the protocols to your hearts content.
It can be a bit resource intensive tho, so I suggest having a machine with lots of RAM

I have a very good document on learning subnetting and hexadecimal conversion.
In fact I am gonna write up a tutorial and post it later

I'm CWNA certified (802.11) so let me know how I can help.
The CWNA study guide should help you cover this part of the CCNA.
Also:
A good reference book (I call it the networking bible) is the tanenbaum.
http://www.amazon.com/Computer-Netwo...6441145&sr=1-2
It covers the OSI model in detail and you will always need it.
Consider it an investment with my full recommendation

Fam., do a search for "comptia" which stands for Computing Technology Industry Association. They are the board that comes up with most, if not all, of the "standards" for gerneral entry level certs. If you search for comptia you'll find all the A+ stuff you can want.

man just search for all threads started by cyba
you'll find A+, B+, C+ D+ E+ F+
3+
7+
92+
and all types of other shit. that nigga's threads will have you building a nasa space shuttle within 8 weeks
but to be honest search like dude stated. or search for "ccna" that will sometimes bring up networking and A+ related stuff.
see here:
http://www.bgol.us/board/showthread....highlight=ccna
http://www.bgol.us/board/showthread....highlight=ccna
http://www.bgol.us/board/showthread....highlight=ccna
and this is a hell of a thread if you can get it to be reupped

Most of the A+ stuff should be in the CYBA's IT Education Thread.

Re: CCNA GROUP STUDY - (Get Yo Azz In Here!!!)
ran into a stumble on the videos. They are putting me to sleep. I started the OS video and realized that I just keep watching the same first one over and over and falling asleep so I am spent 2 days trying to get the latest bosom simulator to work but no luck so I am going to stick with version 6. Enough time wasted on 7 already. Now I am running into the problem with six where it wont display the pdf for the stand alone labs.

Good question ... I have no idea. Somebody mentioned DimDim one time but I never checked it out.
