clearly she didn't read her script or her contract, polly was supposed to be the funny and sexy character.
Its more like the Fonz, J.J., Flo, Urkel syndrome.... where a supporting character becomes more popular than the character the show is either named after or created for in the first place. In all those shows Happy Days, Good Times, Alice, Family Matters.... the main characters Richie Cunningham, Florida Evans, Alice Hyatt, and Harriette Winslow were the reason for the shows.

Happy Days was about Richie's life and friends
Good Times was a spin off for Florida from the show Maude
Family Matters was a spinoff of Perfect Strangers where Harriette was a stand out character.
Alice was a sitcom remake of a movie called Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. It was designed as show for Linda Lavin....Flo just got bigger laughs.

Fonz, J.J. Flo and Urkel all drew focus away from the main character to the point where the writers began shaping episodes around them. Note: they all have catch phrases....Fonz: (thumbs up) "Aaaaaaay!" J.J.: "DYNOMITE!" Flo: "KISS MY GRITS!" Urkel: "Did I do thaaat?!"

And every single one of the stars of those shows got jealous of the those characters and actors. They either admitted it or it came out in BTS/tabloid stories.

Actually, I believe It started with Lost In Space. Lost In Space was supposed to be Guy Williams' show but Johnathan Harris as Dr Smith became the most popular character on that show.
