I always liked Ashanti's look and voice. I'm glad to see her still looking fine. She's also got her own money I'd love to marry into.

How much is Ashanti worth? $40 Million

How did Ashanti earn her money and wealth?

Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas was born in Glen Cove, New York (the United States) on 13 October 1980, She is simply known as Ashanti and is an American singer, songwriter, record producer (track producer or music producer), dancer and actress. Ashanti’s mother Tina Douglas was a former dance teacher and her father, Ken-Kaide Thomas Douglas was a former singer. Her mother named her after Ashanti Empire (Asante), Ghana (listen). In a nation where women had a power and influence, she hoped her daughter to be a model. Her grandfather, James was a civil rights activist who was associated with Martin Luther King.

Ashanti struggled to become a successful singer, while her mother helped her in being discovered when she over-heard Ashanti singing at Mary J. Bilge’s ” Reminisce”, at the age of 12. As a teenager, she began to write songs on her own and performed in a local talent show at several small festivals. She got her first taste of acting as a child extra in Spike Lee’s ‘Malcolm X’ in 1992 and in Ted Demme’s ‘Who’s the Man?’ (Comedy film).

In the year 2001, Irv Gotti noticed Ashanti’s talent of singing and asked her to pen music and to perform with rap artists in duets because of her vocal skills. Ashanti was first featured as a background vocalist on rapper Big Pun’s (Big Punisher) song” How We Roll”, and she was provided the melodic response to their call. She also appeared as an artist on Vita’s hip-hop (rap music) remake of Madonna’s “Justify My Love” (Madonna) with first-week sales of 254,000 copies, and eventually became her biggest hit in the United Kingdom and on the solo track “When a Man Does Wrong” and featured The Fast and Furious Soundtrack.

In 2003, Ashanti released her first debut song, “Foolish”, which contains a sample of the song “Stay with me” by DeBarge and “One More Chance” by Big L, which was her biggest success till date. To have their first three chart entries in the top ten of the hot 100 she became the second artist after Beatles. In April 2002, she self-titled her album as “Ashanti”, which was released on Irv Gotti’s Murder Inc. Records which was debuted at number one on the United States Billboard 200 albums chart. The album was certified triple platinum in the United States and sold over six million copies all over the world.

In July 2003, Ashanti became the subject of controversy peaking at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, when it was announced that she would receive the Soul Train Aretha Franklin Award(Super Soul Music) when she was a high school student and took offensive start on the online petition against her, explaining to The Seattle Times( Daily newspaper) that she was too young to deserve the award. Ashanti released her second album “ChapterII” (Studio album), which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, with first-week sales of 3,26,000 copies in the United States.

In 2005, Ashanti focused more on her acting career by making her film debut in Coach Carter along with Samuel L. Jackson, in which she played a pregnant teenager named Kyra who has to decide not to abort her unborn child this pulled her nearly 8 million viewers when it premiered. Ashanti released the song “Never Too Far Away”, in April 2013, which later won “Best Independent R&B or Soul Performance” award.

As a young girl, Ashanti was influenced by Ella Fitzgerald as the main reason to pursue a singing as her career and Jason Birchmeier of AllMusic noted her reputation for using her “Swooning voice” where she had landed her first series regular role in the seventh season of Army Wives.
