The Atlanta Braves and Delaware North have officially debuted their new concessions options, and some of them -- namely the Burgerizza and the Punisher -- have to be seen and/or tasted to be believed.

As the Braves open up a new era, the product on the field isn’t the only thing receiving a huge makeover. Today the Braves -- along with their new food contractor Delaware North -- debuted their menu items and I got a sneak peak and bite at them. I braved the rivers of indigestion to bring you a guide to the new Atlanta Braves concessions.

T.E.D. - "The Everything Dog"

TED.0.jpg

The name does it justice as it’s your standard footlong hotdog with just about everything you can find. It’s layered with fries, chili, nacho chips, beer cheese, jalapenos and then topped with popcorn and a Coca-Cola infused BBQ sauce all while being served on a pretzel bun. As you can imagine it’s extremely salty so it’s almost necessary to get some of the BBQ sauce on each bite. It’s enough food to feed a family - at least I hope so with that in mind it’s a reasonable $15. You can find this monster both at Taste of the Majors in the Fan Plaza, along with the Chop House.

Tater Tot Chop

Tater_Tot_Chop.0.jpg

The picture says it all. It’s a bunch of tater tots pressed into a waffle shape using a waffle iron. It’s then covered with bacon (lots of bacon), cheese, and jalapenos. The madness doesn’t stop there as it is then topped with ANOTHER tater tot waffle with an in-house made Coca-Cola infused ketchup. They are very generous with the toppings on this as nearly every bite has bacon, cheese, jalapenos, and of course waffle on it. Much like the T.E.D. it is huge in size and enough for 2-3 people to share so at $16 it’s also reasonably priced. This will be found at only one location - Taste of the Majors in the fan plaza.

Punisher

Punisher.0.jpg

Described as "punishingly delicious," this dish features country-fried smoked rib meat covered in BBQ sauce infused with Monster energy drink, a beer-battered onion ring, and slaw all between a Hawaiian bun and kept in place by two slices of bacon. Despite the lavish ingredients ($18) there is no bold flavor - the meat is delicious and creamy but unfortunately for me there was something missing. It too will be found only at Taste of the Majors in the fan plaza.

Sausage Sundae

The subtle crisp and sweetness of the cherry tomato really overta-- no, no it doesn’t. This beautiful creation involves a split smoked sausage with mac n’ cheese, mashed potatoes, and pulled pork in the shape of a sundae topped off with BBQ sauce and that previously mentioned cherry tomato. If you’re looking for one of the "lighter" signature foods - this is it, and it’s actually pretty good. It’s also the first dish that was made for 1 and can be purchased for $9 at Smoke House BBQ in the Fan Plaza and in Section 317.

Top-N-Go

TopNGo.0.jpg

Frito pie meets doritos. This needs no introduction if you’re from the south. Fritos topped with chili and cheese, or doritos with pulled pork, chicken and cheese. A definite guilty pleasure. These will be found for $9 at the Smoke House BBQ in the Fan Plaza, section 317, the Nacho Cart in section 202, and La Taqueria(!!!) in section 321.

Burgerizza

Burgerizza.0.jpg

The Man. The Myth. The Legend. I’m sure you’ve all seen or already read about this mammoth concoction. A grilled 20 ounce patty, with FIVE slices of cheddar cheese, topped with bacon. If that’s not enough for you the buns have been replaced with TWO 8-inch Freschetta pepperoni pizzas. It’s enough food to feed a family of 4 and it’s reflected in its price ($26). There is but one place to locate this beast and that is at Taste of the Majors in the Fan plaza.

The Braves also introduced five more items that will only be found in the 755 club and personally, this is where their best work is done.

Fried Green Tomatoes

Fried_Green_Tomatoes.0.jpg

A classic southern dish - Delaware North does nothing to alter it. Sliced, pickled tomatoes served with a delicious remoulade sauce. Definitely worth trying.

Smoked Brisket Po-Boy

Beautifully smoked brisket drizzled in horseradish aioli with pickled red onions and incredible house made pickles served on a french roll. The horseradish aioli is sharp, and blends extremely well with the creamy brisket. One of my favorite dishes.

Buffalo Chicken and Waffle

Buffalo_Chicken_N_Waffle.0.jpg

In a bold move the Braves incorporate buffalo chicken to a classic southern dish and it works surprisingly well. Instead of a syrup you have a maple slaw to provide some creaminess.

Shrimp Roll

Shrimp_Roll.0.jpg

I know what you’re thinking - shrimp at a ballpark. It sounds weird, and it would take some getting used to. Keep in mind this is only served in the 755 club and it makes a lot more sense. It’s a shrimp salad topped with dill, arugula and roma tomatoes all inside a New England style roll. After wrapping my head around the idea of eating shrimp in a ballpark this was a very pleasant surprise. If you like shrimp, and you like baseball you will like this dish.

Cumberland (Piedmont) Farm Wrap

Wrap.0.jpg

My personal favorite it’s grilled seasonal vegetable, romaine lettuce, arugula, tomatoes wrapped inside a whole wheat tortilla with a drinkable balsamic aioli sauce. I don’t expect this dish to last because not many come to the park wanting a veggie wrap but the balsamic aioli drizzle is incredible.

There will also be a number of new dining options and stands debuting. La Taqueria located in section 321 will have tacos, there will be a number of Mayfield Ice Cream stands, a nacho cart located in section 202, the New Amsterdam Vodka Bar, a gluten free/vegetarian option located in section 102, along with numerous other options.

I'm very happy about the new Dome prices - we chaperone kids to 3 or 4 events there every year like HBCU Football Classics and the Honda Battle of the Bands. Usually we have to feed the kids beforehand to avoid the temptation of $5 sodas, but these better prices will allow the kids to enjoy stadium food.

BTW, those Braves concessions look good and taste good but you are definitely paying a premium price. I had the Burgerizza last month which is delicious but really only feeds two. One $26 burger + tax + tip + 2 soft drinks wound up being over $50. :eek2:

Serious question...

why does the ATL not go to games?

I'd like to know this too. More than enough people, their teams have been around for a good while, and even transients go to games to see their team. Only thing I could think of was the dam traffic.

Serious question...

why does the ATL not go to games?

1. Traffic hassles and because they want to root for a true championship caliber team that can win it all. Some people have to travel too far to support teams that usually choke or lose.

2. And besides many of the people here are transplants anywayz, they are not loyal to the franchises and they root for other teams to begin with.

3. Plus, the large inner city gay population only cares about "water sports."
