Ex-Steeler coach Cowher's wife dies
Former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher on Saturday confirmed the death of his wife at the age of 54.
Kaye Cowher died of skin cancer in her native North Carolina. The death was first reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette late Friday.
The family relocated to Raleigh during Cowher's final year as coach in 2006, not long after the Steelers won the Super Bowl.
Kaye Cowher was a former basketball player at North Carolina State and played in the now-defunct Women's Professional Basketball League. In the pros, she played alongside twin sister Faye.
The Cowhers met at North Carolina State, where Bill played linebacker. They married in 1981.
Bill Cowher stepped down as Pittsburgh coach after 15 seasons and has been working as a football studio analyst since 2007.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters. A private funeral will be held Monday in North Carolina.
