Black child fills potholes in city-How the US disgraces black communities

This is a GODDAMN shame, embarrassment and a testament to what the US thinks about black people...specifically American Descendants of Slaves.

My great grandfather (grandfather's side) moved to Muskegon from Alabama many years ago. He was over 100 when I met him in 1982.

My grandmother's side also moved there from Mississippi (married my grandfather obviously).

I'm related to half the fucking town .

This is NOTHING to be proud about in the most wealthy country in the world. This is NOT a feel good story.

Anyway, check this shit out:

---------------------------------------------
Muskegon Heights

As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 10,856 people, 3,996 households, and 2,682 families residing in the city. The population density was 3,403.1 inhabitants per square mile (1,313.9/km2). There were 4,842 housing units at an average density of 1,517.9 per square mile (586.1/km2).

The racial makeup of the city was:
16.0% White,
78.3% African American,
0.3% Native American,
0.1% Asian
1.4% from other races
3.8% from two or more races.
Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.2% of the population.

A 12-year-old Michigan boy decided to take action and started to fill the potholes that have plagued his neighbourhood street for years, because he “didn’t want people messing up their cars like my mom did.”

Armed with nothing more than a blue Rubbermaid garbage bin and a shovel, Monte Scott started filling the craters on his street last week after getting a half-day at school.

“If somebody were to drive down the street and hit a pothole, and then would have to pay like $600-700 to get their car fixed, they would be mad,” Scott explained to WZZM13 News.

So, Scott decided to fill the garbage can with dirt from his backyard and drag the bin down his road, filling the potholes one by one.

“The loose stones, I just get some, and put it in a pothole and pat it down, make sure it’s all even,” Scott explained of his method. “Then I get some dirt. Scoop it into the middle and level it out.”

Trinell Scott, the boy’s mother, told the news station her son didn’t tell anyone his plan to fix up his street, and she was unware of his actions until someone posted a short video on social media of her son doing his thing.

“I was at work, and I got a text message from my niece, and she’d seen the video on Facebook,” the mother said. “He just took it upon himself to [fix the road]. That’s just the type of kid he is.

“When he sees there’s a problem or a need, and he thinks he can fix it, he’ll try to fix it,” she told WZZM13 News.

Muskegon Heights Mayor Kimberley Sims told the Detroit Free Press she was impressed with Scott’s initiative, calling it a “true testament” to the boy’s community.

“I commend the young man’s efforts,” Sims told the newspaper. “He’s 12, he should be getting ready for school the next day, or playing video games.”

According to WZZM13 News, Scott had filled 15 potholes on his street and plans to finish filling them all.

Not all 12-year-old heroes wear capes.

Don't get why you're upset.
I more look at the story as positive that a 12 yr old in today's day and age, has the initiative to make a change in his community.

He's not in his house, too busy playing video games or on social media to care about potholes in the street.

Commend that young man.

Or can call that number for Domino's or Pizza Hut, whoever had that commercial on TV about filling potholes, since your city isn't doing anything about it.

He shouldnt have to do a city's job for them. City services should be fixing potholes not little kids. The US isnt third world....yet.

Agreed, but at least he taking the initiative to do something. His story being in the news may spark up some politrician to allocate some funds.

If I saw my street like that and a kid outside doing that, I would of went to go help him.

And the other side of me would of mentioned that the first rainfall, that dirt would of been washed away. Could of gotten some bags of concrete and filled it maybe.

you niggas, man :smh:

...commend him, huh?

You must be from the "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" line of thought.

Do a quick search and find where children are filling potholes on their own.

It's only in 3rd world countries.

This 12 year old boy lives in the richest country in the world but the city, which is majority black, has a 43% poverty rate...

He should be studying or playing not filling potholes.

The median income for a household in the city was $21,778, and the median income for a family was $26,144. Males had a median income of $30,027 versus $22,768 for females. The per capita income for the city was $12,456. About 25.7% of families and 29.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 41.8% of those under age 18 and 17.0% of those age 65 or over.

Oh ok, then you wait for the city to come do that for you then. Sit back and bitch about it online like as if that's gonna fix your car when you break a tie rod end or something.

It is deplorable of the City to not come and fill the damned potholes until it could be repaved, but it is commendable of this young man to have enough empathy for the rest of the neighbors to try to spare them the expense that his mother had to shell out.

Hopefully this lights a fire under some asses in City Hall.
