Japanese, Korean and Chinese are all offered for FREE at Duolingo, not sure if the Chinese is Mandarin or Cantonese. Once you get a few chapters in, sign up at PrePly where you can start talking to fluent speakers of your language choices all over the world for a small fee by the hour. The best time to start learning a new language is a year ago. The second best time is today.

Thanks for the motivation . I speak a little Spanish and tried Learning korean because my wife can speak but damn that shot is hard as hell. I’ll try duralingo again.

Korean along with possibly Icelandic are reportedly the two most difficult languages for a native English speaker to tackle. But if I were substantially younger, that would never scare me away, quite the opposite IF I had a reason and desire to learn either. It puts you in one helluva select group! But for me, if I had more time left, I would start adding Swahili. But I have enough on my plate, and if I ever get to do any more traveling, the only non-African destination I could ever visualize myself going is Thailand, and if you keep it in Bangkok or Pattaya, which I would, there's no need to speak Thai.

He had great tips. His first one, which is the one I truly jumped one, learn basic conversation phrases first and learn the response. For example:

Do you speak x language?
They will respond yes and be shocked you can and will probably ask how do you know how to speak or for how long. You then say I am still learning. They will usually say, you speak very well to be just learning.
