A black security guard this weekend prevented a potential mass shooting at the bar where he worked — and was then gunned down by an Illinois police officer who mistook him for a criminal.

WGN TV reports that 26-year-old armed security guard Jemel Roberson was working at Manny’s Blue Room Bar in Robbins, Illinois on Sunday morning when he was attacked by a gun-wielding man whom witnesses say had been kicked out of the bar earlier in the evening.
Roberson returned fire on the man and managed to subdue him and pin him to the ground.

However, when a Midlothian, Illinois police officer showed up on the scene, he opened fire and killed Roberson because he thought Roberson was the true assailant.

“Everybody was screaming out, ‘he was a security guard,’ and they basically saw a black man with a gun and killed him,” witness Adam Harris tells WGN TV.

The Midlothian Police Department has so far released very little information about the shooting and is only confirming that one of its officers was involved. According to WGN, the State Police Public Integrity Task Force is running an investigation of the officer’s decision to open fire on Roberson.

Pastor Patricia Hill of Chicago’s Purposed Church tells WGN TV that she’s horrified to see another young black man fatally shot by police despite the fact that he had risked his own life to prevent a potential mass shooting.

“Once again it’s the continued narrative that we see of shoot first, ask questions later,” she said.

THIS is the scenario that plays in my head everytime the bullshit 'good guy with a gun' narrative is floated.

Rest in peace... hope his family Sue's the fuck out of the PD

RIP. That's a sad shame. Reminds me of a murder uptown in the Bronx when some fucking young savage cac's let off shots at a bar and a bullet hit the Black man inside working security. Those fucking devils never went to prison. The man was a single parent raising two daughters. RIP

I don't know if I'm more upset at the fact they shot them or the fact no justice will be done.
yeah i dont know who's in charge of any of that shit.

the worst that will happen is the cop will lose his job.

look mayne, i worked in a warehouse. if someone was killed there OSHA wouldve crawled up everyones ass until they were sure we werent responsible. if ANY of us were we couldve/wouldve been hit with criminal negligence charges automatically.

how come cops have less responsibility for public safety than a fucking warehouse manager???

I work in a mid level paint manufacturing plant. These mofos don't play around. If you cause any structural damage. Or fuck up the paint formula, blend it wrong. They send your ass, to get drug tested . ASAP! The same thing should apply to all police shootings.

Damn, that's fucked up. RIP to that Brother.
At the point that the Cop arrived, the situation was already contained, so he had time to make an assessment, not to mention by standing witnesses trying to alert the muhfucka. :smh:
I doubt that Midlothian will take any action against him either.
