TODAY IN HISTORY 1848 — The first Women's Rights Convention opens in Seneca Falls. Here is a list of many arguments made against women’s right to vote. I wonder how many MAGA Supreme Court Justices still agree?
•Women were created by God to be subordinate to men, and voting would upset the natural order and the divine plan.
•Women were too emotional, irrational, ignorant or weak to make sound political decisions, and voting would strain their delicate nerves and brains.
•Women did not need to vote because they were represented by their husbands, fathers or brothers, and voting would cause conflict and division within the family.
•Women did not have the same interests or responsibilities as men, and voting would distract them from their proper duties of taking care of the home and the children.
•Women did not contribute to the economy or pay taxes, and voting would give them undue influence over public affairs and policies. •Women did not serve in the military or risk their lives for their country, and voting would undermine the authority and patriotism of men.
•Women were already protected and privileged by the existing system, and voting would expose them to corruption, violence and exploitation.
