Sensible people can celebrate accomplishments even as they realize other issues exist and more work needs to be done. You'd probably shit on someone being the first in their family to graduate by pointing out all the dropouts or lamenting they were educatedby the white man's system. SMH

I said the black people that get appointed to these top political positions don't advance without serving whitey. So a black DA for example or Kamala you don't get the chance to be in such a high position if you are focusing your attention on corporate crime vs drugs and inner city crime. I think what brother @Supersav is saying in regards to "The first Black..." is that in most cases, these people have been vetted as people who have shown a propensity to at best, have an indifference towards Black people, and at worst, have outright disdain for Black people.

The purpose of celebrating firsts, is yes to bring attention to black advancement, but also to show others that they can also pursue something that maybe they never saw themselves or a black person in because the roles of black people have been so narrowly defined that many don't see themselves being able to excel or be admitted to places of power.
It used to be that when a black person achieved a first, it was assumed that they were 10x more qualified than the folks they were serving with to even be considered, but you think it is because they have rolled over for "the man". Again, why do you think so little of our people? She might turn out to be a disaster in this new role, the point is I don't know and neither than you, but I can say congratulations and keep it moving and you are out here trying to convince black folks that we don't belong in these spaces unless we are sellouts.
She is a board member. What is her role and what has or will come before her that she has the opportunity to sway to the favor of black folks?
