Both Sides: Why we don't fuck with the GOP

Former Speaker John Boehner on Jan. 6:

“Watching it was scary, and sad. It should have been a wake-up call for a return to Republican sanity…it will compare to one of the lowest points of American democracy that we lived through in January 2021…

Trump incited that bloody insurrection for nothing more than selfish reasons, perpetuated by the bullshit he’d been shoveling since he lost a fair election the previous November. He claimed voter fraud without any evidence, and repeated those claims, taking advantage of the trust placed in him by his supporters and ultimately betraying that trust.”

Supreme Court Upholds Insurrection Ban on Official Who’s Not Trump

A January 6 rioter can be barred from office, according to the Supreme Court. Trump, on the other hand ...

On Monday, the nation’s conservative-majority high court upheld a ban preventing former New Mexico official Couy Griffin from running for office within the state again due to his specific criminal history: In 2022, Griffin was convicted on misdemeanor offenses for his role in the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, ultimately costing him his job as county commissioner.
It’s the Supreme Court’s first decision on the Fourteenth Amendment since it axed a Colorado decision earlier this month to keep Trump off the state’s GOP presidential primary ballot, and the first time that the “insurrectionist clause” has been used to bar someone from office since it was created to keep ex-Confederates from reattaining high office following the Civil War. By allowing the Fourteenth Amendment to be used against Griffin, the Supreme Court seems to have, circuitously, deemed the January 6 riot an insurrection.

BREAKING: The family of Ruth Bader Ginsberg emerges victorious as the foundation that was planning to give the RBG award to MAGA billionaire Elon Musk and Rupert Murdoch cancels the award ceremony entirely.

Julie Opperman, chair of the foundation, said that "the last thing we intended was to offend the family and friends of RBG."

"Our purpose was only to remember her and to honor her leadership," she added. "And, while we believe each of the honorees is worthy of our respect for their leadership and their notable contributions, the Foundation has decided that the planned ceremony in April 2024 will be canceled."

Ginsberg's family slammed the Opperman Foundation last week after the organization announced its plans to honor the far-right figures. Obviously, RBG's legacy stands in opposition to everything that Musk and Murdoch stand for.

This is exactly the outcome that RBG's family was hoping for.

They previously said that the foundation had "strayed far from the original mission of the award and from what Justice Ginsburg stood for" and that it was an "affront" to her memory.

"Her legacy is one of deep commitment to justice and to the proposition that all persons deserve what she called ‘equal citizenship stature’ under the Constitution," the family in said in their statement. "She was a singularly powerful voice for the equality and empowerment of women, including their ability to control their own bodies."

The late justice's son Jim Ginsburg said that choosing Musk and Murdoch was a "desecration of my mother’s memory.”

"When you think of trying to create a more just society, which of course was Mom’s ultimate goal, those are probably about the last names that would come to mind," he added.
