I mean, this was actually their message before the election, too. "We just need you to vote this one time..." was the same message, they were just ignorant to understand it.
A big chunk of why I don't feel compelled to have sympathy for anyone in this situation is because it was obvious. Trump and co. spelled out exactly what they were planning to do, so people can't really even be shocked to discover that they are doing exactly that.
