I hate that I am just smart enough to understand how close we were to a larger catastrophe with COVID, and how close we always are to a near extinction level event. Ignoring the science is not helping that cause.

In short anything more virulent than COVID with even near the fatality rate would absolutely wreck us. By the time the one half of the country acknowledged there was a problem, we'd be decimated.
