Mass casualty incident reported on Bourbon Street
Multiple people have been killed near the intersection of Bourbon Street and Iberville Street. The New Orleans Police Department says “a car may have plowed into a group of people.”

Ten people have been killed and 20 others injured near the intersection of Bourbon Street and Canal Street in what New Orleans city officials have described as "a mass casualty incident."
Mayor LaToya Cantrell's administration said a vehicle plowed through a large crowd, causing the deaths and injuries, just hours after downtown revelers rang in the new year. WWL television reports that bars and hotels in the area, including on Bourbon Street, were evacuated.
City officials are urging people to stay clear of the area.
The New Orleans Police Department reported the incident at 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

CBS said one of its reporters, Kati Weis, saw multiple people on the ground with injuries. It said witnesses had told Weis that the driver of the vehicle fired a weapon, with police returning fire.

CNN quoted a witness, Kevin Garcia, 22, as saying: “All I seen was a truck slamming into everyone on the left side of Bourbon sidewalk.
