Judd Apatow, Tom Arnold, Norm MacDonald and Accusers Slam Phylicia Rashad’s Defense of Bill Cosby

Bill Cosby‘s former TV wife, Phylicia Rashad, has provoked outrage on social media after her defense of the scandal-plagued comedian, with “Knocked Up” director Judd Apatow and others taking her to task.

Rashad went on the offensive against Cosby’s accusers during an interview with Showbiz 411’s Roger Friedman.

“Forget these women,” Rashad told Friedman in a story published Tuesday night. “What you’re seeing is the destruction of a legacy. And I think it’s orchestrated.”

Tweeting to @TheWrap, Apatow posed the question, “Phylicia- how many women need to be raped before you realize he destroyed his own legacy? 40? 50?” The “Trainwreck” director followed, “For me it’s one.”

That touched off a vigorous exchange between Apatow with comedians Norm MacDonald and Tom Arnold, the latter responding, “good for you Judd. Balls.”

MacDonald expressed concerns over retaliation by Cosby, tweeting, “I hope Mr. Cosby doesn’t hurt Judd’s career.”

In another tweet, to TheWrap CEO and Editor in Chief Sharon Waxman, Apatow accused Rashad of being financially motivated in her defense of Cosby. “She is worried about her SAG residuals disappearing if they are heard in court. Shameful,” Apatow wrote late Tuesday.

One of Cosby’s accusers, former Playboy bunny Sarita Butterfield, also weighed in on Rashad’s defense of her television husband, telling TMZ,

“What if something like this happened to her daughter? Shame on her and shame on Bill.”

A second accuser, Angela Leslie, told the website that she found Rashad’s comments “sad.”

“I looked at her as a woman with morals, and it’s sad that she’s speaking like this,” Leslie said.

More than a dozen women have stepped forward to accuse Cosby of sexual assault. In the wake of the allegations, Cosby has suffered a number of career setbacks, including NBC halting development of a comedy in which he would have starred and Netflix postponing a comedy special featuring the comedian.

Bill Cosby Scandal Adds 3 More Accusers; Gloria Allred Blasts Phylicia Rashad

Civil rights lawyer Gloria Allred took aim at scandal-plagued comedian Bill Cosby Wednesday, holding a press conference with three new women who claim that Cosby attacked them.

Allred also chastised Phylicia Rashad, Cosby’s former TV wife, who defended Cosby and said that people should “forget” his accusers in an interview published Tuesday.

The three women, who had not publicly spoken about the allegations prior to Wednesday’s conference, said that they “have decided they will not be intimidated by Cosby’s money, fame and power.”

One alleged victim, Linda Kirkpatrick, claimed that she met Cosby during a mixed doubles tennis tournament in Las Vegas in 1981. After she bested Cosby in their match, Kirkpatrick claimed she attended his show at the Las Vegas Hilton and, arriving at his dressing room, was given a “tall, thin champagne type of glass” by Cosby which contained a clear liquid that “tasted terrible.”

Later, in Cosby’s dressing room, Kirkpatrick claimed that he “was on top of me kissing me forcefully” even though she “had no interest in sex of any kind with Bill Cosby.”

Kirkpatrick added that she had “no conscious recollection of how I got home” and, the next day, “began violently throwing up … as a result of what I believe to be ingesting some kind of drug.”

Kirkpatrick said that Cosby apologized for his behavior and invited her back, after which he locked her in an aggressive hug and forcefully tried to kiss her.

A second accuser, identified as Lynn Neal (Allred said that, aside from Kirkpatrick, the accusers may not be using their real names) claimed that she met Cosby when she was a massage therapist in her mid-20s at a health club. Neal claimed that the comedian invited her to his show and later to dinner. According to Neal, Cosby gave her a shot of Stoli and, after the pair returned to his dressing room — with Neal in a “disoriented and confused” state — Cosby began having sex with her against her will.

“He built my trust by pretending to be a friend,” Neal said at the conference. “He drugged and raped me.”

A third accuser, identified as Kacey, said she worked as an assistant to Cosby’s personal appearances agent at William Morris in the ’90s. Kacey said that she was invited to Cosby’s bungalow, where he gave her a large, white pill that she took at his repeated insistence. Kacey claimed that she next remembers waking up in bed with a naked Cosby.

Regarding Rashad, who was harshly criticized for her defense of Cosby on Tuesday, Allred said, “Phylicia, you should be supporting these women rather than joining Cosby’s paid attack dogs who are trying to undermine them in any way that they can … if anyone did to you or to your daughter or to your sister or to your mother what Mr. Cosby is alleged to have done to these women, I have no doubt you would not be saying ‘forget these women.’ Instead you’d be supporting them.”

In December, Allred also held a press conference featuring three other women who accused Cosby of victimizing them.

Phylicia Rashad raised eyebrows earlier this week when she commented on the numerous sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby with a seemingly callous remark.

"Forget those women," she told Showbiz 411 columnist Roger Friedman on Tuesday.

"And that was a misquote," she told ABC News in an interview on Wednesday. "What I said is this is not about the women. This is about something else. This is about the obliteration of a legacy."

She added, "I am a woman. I would never say such a thing

That's first.

Unfortunately people are responding to a misquote than what she said.
It's legit for her to say she's never seen that side of Bill Cosby and it's always harder for people close to someone to believe something horrible like they're a serial rapist.

Fuck Gloria Allred. Trashy "lawyer".

they are right, she said we should forget the rape victims and not damage his reputation

how many of the 30 said he raped them ?

so why do you and others act like they are all alleged rape victims ?

didn't they forget about themselves for not reporting it if it happened and only waited decades to make accusations they can't prove

and why is it okay to destroy as reputation with charges you can't prove ?

that asshole director talking about court but he knows there is no way any of this will go to court because of lack of evidence to charge

and the other cat saying he thinks cosby is guilty but he worries about social media destroying an innocent. well what proof has he seen to say this isn't the innocent he is worried about ?

So not only have none of them

gone to the police

told a parent

told a friend

told a manager

but after throwing up violently and thinking they may have ingested something

never went to the ER or their own doctor

I was handed a tall champagne type glass filled with a clear liquid that tasted terrible

so i drank it up

and I remember everything that happened except how I got home ?

GTFOH with these stories

Gloria will drop them soon because she won't get a penny.

And there will be no settlement because the stories are out and the damage has been done. Settlements are done for damage control..too late for that

Exactly. Damn near all of their stories sound the same. How do you remember him forcefully being on top of you but nothing else?

Add to that, someone gives you a pill that you JUST MET, and you take it? :hmm:

Get the entire fuck outta here.

Plus, how the fuck are you a Playboy bunny at 14 or 15, and don't put ANY blame on Heff? :hmm::smh:

This shit is ridiculous...

because in the court of public opinion when a great percentage of the public has no common sense you don't need proof.

and don't forget how many went to school to learn to take a test not to think they will conclude what they are told is the conclusion.

most of the stories have one or two things in common but the rest is different

serial killers and serial rapists don't usually deviate from their MO.

so some he snuck them a mickey and some he handed it to them and they took it. some were given drinks that tasted horrible but they drank them anyway.?

yup yup makes sense to me

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

so it's ok for them to say what they say but not ok for PR to say what she says? Are they gods of some measure?

thanks for this....

Friedman posted a clarification on his Showbiz 411 site, writing:

"I did not misquote Phylicia Rashad. But she didn't mean for it to be taken the way it was, and I should have punctuated. There was NEVER the meaning in 'Forget those women' that she was saying to actually forget or dismiss then. She meant, 'those women aside' – as in, she's not talking about that, she's talking about Cosby's legacy being destroyed."

Friedman says that no one asked him to post a clarification, but he was taking down the quote.

"It was conversational. Somehow this got twisted. I am really sorry if the way I presented it made it seem like either one of us was forgetting anyone. I've been at a hospice on and off for 10 says with a family friend of 40 years. So really, let's all calm down. What Phylicia was doing was defending her friend and his legacy. That's what she said, that's what I wrote, I'm sorry if it caused her grief. And no one asked me to write this. I'm just saying it because I like and respect her."

And Gloria has dug up some more huh ?

Fuck Judd Apaptow. I want to know why that CAC is so obssesed over this whole Bill Cosby scandal. Does he love to see a Black Man's legacy tarnished that much? He's been one of the main CACs constantly declaring Cosby guilty in the court of public opinon.

I don't know why anyone out there is taking offense to Phylicia defending a guy who is by now a very old friend of hers... starred with her on two tv shows, etc. Most people would probably stand up for their friends in the face of at the very least, unproven accusations.

'Girls' Executive Producer Jenni Konner Defends Judd Apatow's Crusade Against Bill Cosby

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/01/06/jenni-konner-judd-apatow-bill-cosby_n_6425552.html

"Girls" executive producer Jenni Konner commended Judd Apatow on Tuesday for speaking out against Bill Cosby, this after "Black-ish" creator Kenya Barris rebuked Apatow as having "strangely obsessive" behavior about the embattled comic.

In December, Apatow slammed Cosby and two venues that had not canceled the 77-year-old's appearances in the wake of numerous sexual assault accusations. Over the course of several tweets, Barris criticized Apatow for his focus on Cosby and questioned why the director didn't also use his social media platform to speak out against other social issues (like the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner). Barris himself was then accused of defending Cosby -- "I WAS IN NO WAY DEFENDING COSBY. At all. Period," he wrote -- before he and Apatow appeared to part ways in an amicable fashion.

When Konner spoke with HuffPost Live's Ricky Camilleri about the upcoming fourth season of "Girls," she characterized the accusations against Cosby as "some serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer shit" and called Barris' criticism of Apatow "insane." Said Konner:

[Barris] was like, 'You're obsessed,' and I was like, 'Um, I wish more people were obsessed with a rapist [who assaulted women] when they were unconscious. ... I thought it was insane. I wish that everyone was as obsessed [as Judd is] with the idea that [Cosby] should not be working and not be getting paid to work. ... I feel like Judd is the only one talking about it really, publicly, or one of the only celebrities and certainly one of the only men talking about it. And so I think the reason he is going on and on about it is because no one else is, and thank God he is. Like, I've never been prouder to be his partner than at this moment.

More than 20 women have accused Cosby of sexual misconduct. Martin Singer, Cosby's lawyer, has previously called the allegations against Cosby "unsubstantiated" and "fantastical."

Fuck these writers for creating the storm. This is the Internet age, you can't just take shit down. Once it hits, fucked up editing and all, it's takes on a life of its own.

I hope people recognize what reporters they speak to and have integrity, and those not to fuck with anymore.

told a parent

See, I'm not even riding on innocence or guilt.... I have no idea so I'm on the fence and giving him the benefit of the doubt. ....but I'm also waiting to at least hear some friend or family member say "she told me right after it happened", or "10 years later while I was watching The Cosby Show she came in and said I can't believe you're watching that raping bastard", etc". ...but so far, nothing like that.... so we're supposed to believe that a big celebrity drugged and raped you, for 10, 20, 30+ years, you never mentioned it to anyone...not police (I can understand that) but girlfriends.... sisters?

Gloria will drop them soon because she won't get a penny.

This shit is ridiculous...
This Linda Kirkpatrick chic says she played tennis with him in a Vegas Tournament, went to see his stand-up comedy show later that night at a local Casino....

Kirkpatrick then alleged that she blacked out during the show and woke up in his dressing room alone.

Sooooo.... this chic passes the fuk out and NOBODY who works at this hotel Casino calls a doctor, or calls an ambulance... they just take her to Cosby's dressing room... and leave her there?

How the fuck did she even get to this Casino in the first place?
Did she take a cab? Did she get a ride from someone? If so, where was her ride at? :hmm:
Was she hanging out with a 'group' of friends who just ditched her? :hmm:

Welp, anyways she gets sexually assaulted.... so she comes RIGHT BACK to his hotel the next night...

The second night they played backgammon in his room before he allegedly attacked her again, she said.

The shit is ridiculous. :smh:

You just cannot make this shit up. :smh:

I wish they had cared the same about these accusations as they did with visual proof of someone raising a kid and then marrying that kid when she grew up.

This is actually where I am. I just know that it is too easy to ruin a black man even if the characters of the accusers are shaky and the stories don't pass the smell test.

I have more of an issue with black folks so ready to jump on the bandwagon and convict a black man based on what amounts to rumors that have spread.

And we all have heard rumors that before you know it 100 other people cosign as them having seen it..Or hearing a story and taking it as their own.

How many lynchings have occurred because some white woman said some shit and no proof just that it was a black man.

How many black communities have been burned down because of the same shit.

So yeah I have a problem with black folks so ready to believe shit with no proof....Not holding the accuser to any standard.

and now that Phylicia has spoken black mofokrs talking about she just worried about her money...

White folks had me for a minute, but I'm really sick of their anti-Cosby shit. I believe NONE of it now. Like somebody on here said, he probably missed a meeting at the Bohemian Grove and is now feeling the wrath.

Go to the police. Not the media.

I hate stuff like this.no one wins.if the women are lying then women actually faced sexual assault will be less likely to come forward, and they ruined Cosby's name. If these women aren't lying then Cosby is a monster who fooled us all, but predators tend to have an image that shields them from accusations. These stories are so incredible that they could be true. Maybe it only seems that way because I can't separate the image I have of Cosby from these accusations.

Which is why we need proof or fall back.
You can't call these women victims without proof and can't call him definitely anything without more evidence either way

right now we have their word against his

and just because a lot of people say something doesn't mean it's true nor does it mean they're all conspiring against him.

We have nothing so this shouldn't be anything.

Apatow is a piece of shit.
