The match between the two hardest punchers in the middleweight division, Julian Jackson (49-3-47KO) and Gerald McClellan (31-2-29KO) is a classic match-up between two highly skilled and hard punching athletes.
Although Jackson was the hardest puncher of the two, McClellan, also possessing great power, possessed the better technique and boxing skills of the two that would make the difference.

On September 21, 1985 at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, Larry Holmes, aka the Easton Assassin, defended his IBF heavyweight title against light heavyweight champion Michael Spinks. It was the 27-0 Spinks’ first fight at heavyweight. Holmes was 48-0 and on the cusp of tying Rocky Marciano’s longstanding and thought to be untouchable 49-0 record. It was a close fight, perilously close, but the Spinks Jinx must have been working its magic. Ring Magazine crowned Holmes-Spinks 1 Upset of the Year for 1985…

For the fam' in Canada - check your local listings of late for TSN's programming. They have been airing a good amount of classic boxing matches of late (Ali, Tyson, Oscar, Floyd, etc), as well as the recent new cards.

Also - they've been airing the UFC PPV events a few weeks after they have aired live - for those who missed them.

Jerry Quarry met Joe Frazier June, 23rd, 1969 at New York City's Madison Square Garden, where Quarry could count on fan support. The fight was Ring Magazine's "Fight of The Year". Frazier and Quarry went head-to-head and Frazier's high-tempo pressure came to dominate and the fight was stopped in the 7th round after Quarry, bleeding from the nose and with a very large cut under the eye, took a series of hard punches without moving away or hitting back.

It wasn't that McClellan had the better technique, it was his huge size advantage. Jackson was a small middleweight, he had outstanding middleweight power but he was really a Jr middleweight. McClellan on the other hand was a huge middleweight who should have been fighting at 175, but hey, if you can make the weight then use your size advantage which is what he did.
