Any tips or tricks? How did you get there from the US?

Planning a trip for next year. My pops is a young 83 and we wanted to surprise him with a trip to somewhere that is reflective of his youth in the 50's. We between the culture, the music and the women ... Cuba would be the perfect place since he was born in a West Indian country with latin and French influences.

Any advice appreciated.

Went there for 10 days back in May 2014.

Enjoyed it. Got around everywhere on foot & did one bus tour (double decker). Checked out the museums and art galleries. Bought cigars. One of our family friends lives there so they picked us up one Saturday evening and took us to their place for a family dinner. Delicious.

Overall a good experience. Apparently we just missed a heat wave a few weeks prior, so luckily the weather was agreeable.

I was there for a week. What do you want to know? Had a great time! Do not drink the water. Even lemonade.

Everything is sooo cheap. Especially food. Lobster dinners were like $8.

went to a cigar farm. Went to the bar Ernest Hemingway would drink at. Great time!

We visited that bar too & got a tour of the hotel / the room he stayed at. Interesting.

Man ... we stayed quite awhile at the bar because there was a torrential downpour that afternoon ... pouring rain. Everyone was ducking for cover and shelter in business entryways, lol.

As U.S. citizens, do we have to provide a valid reason to the government to travel there?

I remember they had lifted the embargo somewhat, but even then I'm not sure.

Can I just buy a airplane ticket to go there with no worries?

Check with the travel agency. US citizens have to meet some criteria to visit if I remember correctly.

Yo I was thinking about going there until I went there on VR Earth and basically everywhere looked like this.

I'm sure there are some nice places but on the app, this is basically all I was able to see. If someone has been there and thinks differently let me know, because I may still want to go one day. But if not, it's a nope for me, because that shit looks like a post-apocalyptic dystopian city.

Dope place. Took a cruise there back in 2019. Only stayed a day, but the food was good and tourist attractions are good. Hit up the market area. IT's like a flea market, but you can buy alot of items.
