Phil Jackson will shoot for the stars (Kevin Durant) during free agency but ultimately the Knicks will focus on more realistic targets like Joakim Noah.
Finally, Jackson will turn his attention to building a supporting cast and one former Knick emerging as a viable option is Jamal Crawford, the NBA's only three-time Sixth Man of Year.
Crawford, 36, has strong support within the Knicks organization and that feeling appears to be mutual.
"I'm not talking about any one team but everyone knows how I feel about New York," Crawford told The News. "I really enjoyed my time there."
Knicks prez expected to get sit-down with Kevin Durant
Crawford, who becomes a free agent on July 1st, spent four-plus seasons with the Knicks and played for four coaches, including Larry Brown and Isiah Thomas, who was responsible for signing Crawford.
The Knicks are in the market for a shooting guard and the 6-foot-5 Crawford has the ability to play either guard position. Although he's been in the league 16 years, Crawford is still highly productive based on his winning his third Sixth Man award this past season with the Los Angeles Clippers.
He appeared in 79 games for the Clippers and averaged 15.5 points. Also, Crawford has played at least 69 games in five of his last six non-lockout seasons.

The Clippers own Crawford's Bird Rights and have expressed a desire to re-sign the player who holds the NBA record with 52 four-point plays.
Knicks not celebrating Derrick Rose move, have more work to do to
With a lineup featuring Derrick Rose, Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis, the Knicks will need scoring off the bench and Crawford has established himself as one of the best in league history.
He's also insurance for Rose, who appeared in 66 games last season but has had a history of injury issues.
The Knicks are hoping to re-sign Lance Thomas and Langston Galloway. Arron Afflalo will opt out of his contract on July 1st and is not expected to return.
Derrick Williams, a Jackson favorite, also opted out of his deal and it is unclear if he'll re-sign.
