Animal cruelty investigators are looking for the person who amputated the leg of a 7-year-old black Labrador retriever using garden shears and a kitchen knife in Hamtramck.
According to the Michigan Humane Society, the mutilation happened before noon Wednesday morning in the area of Holbrook Avenue and Conant Street.
A concerned citizen alerted the group, who then seized the dog. The dog is being treated by veterinary and shelter staff at its Mackey Center for Animal Care on Chrysler Drive in Detroit.
Matt Pepper, president and CEO of the Michigan Humane Society said that they do have a suspect and a "really very good case" which they said they'll be moving forward with the Wayne County prosecutor's office.
The dog's name was "Blacky," but the Michigan Humane Society will rename him.
The humane society said he's currently in good condition despite being "grumpy."
"(He's doing) remarkably good considering what he's been through," Pepper said. "To have your leg removed from garden shears and a kitchen knife is the very definition of torture."
Pepper said that the veterinary team will remove the remaining leg but he shouldn't have any issue with mobility after recovery.
As of now, it's an ongoing investigation. More information on the case is expected to be released later.
I saw this shit on the news yesterday. This MF used Orajel on the dogs leg to numb it. WTF
