Distinctive “Santa Baby” singer and late 1960’s Catwoman actress, Eartha Kitt was a Hollywood star with a 60 years long career. Her daughter, Kitt Shapiro, appeared on the Tamron Hall show and shared the struggles she’s faced with her complexion and not being seen as “Black enough.”
“We all know we’ve been victims of some type of trolling or nastiness online and people,” Shapiro began
“They just assume that because I don’t, as I mentioned in the TikTok, look the way they think you should look then you can’t possibly be who you say you are. I truly think she was proud to be the parent of somebody that couldn’t be easily identified because she herself had been so stereotyped and so pigeonholed because of her skin color obviously.”
She continued, sharing how her mother would help her embrace who she was, even sharing how “mixed raced kids are more interesting.”
She goes on to recall a message she saw on Facebook with someone saying how Shapiro “couldn’t possibly” be Eartha’s child, claiming her mother “lied to her” and was “clearly adopted.”
“To which my response was when ‘Do you think a Black woman could have adopted a white baby first of all?” she expressed. “I don’t care how famous she was.”
