There's already a thread on this list. And the responses are predictable. Much as I love Aretha, she ain't above Patti and Gladys. And Brother Ray was indeed a genius but he ain't above Jackie, Marvin, Sam, or Donnie. In fact, I'd argue nobody is above Jackie.

And Mary J? Seriously?

But who the fuck is #97?

At least they got Aretha on top..... but how the fuck they got Michael at no: 25 is beyond belief. :eek2:

How do they rate these singers anyway? Records sales? Chart positions? Random polls? :dunno:
Bob Dylan at 7? Ahead of Michael and Prince? These motherfuckers do lists like that just to get people riled up about their bullshit ass magazine

Just another subjective list. Could be millions of combinations for the top 100. Just off top I'd swap Dylan at 7 with Mary at 100. Whitney is my 1.

Is this an impact list or singing quality list or combination of the 2? Bob Dylan is a very important artist but he is not even a merely good singer. Michael Jackson impact is bigger than Al Green's but Al Green s the better singer. Al ranks above MJ. Bob Dylan ranks above both.

Making these kind of all encompassing lists is an exercise in futility....I am not sure where people thought Rolling Stone magazine was gonna rank Elvis...be thankful he wasn't number one

Ray Charles is a legend. But I’m surprised white folks put him over Elvis. Like I always said, Nat King Cole is the goat in quality of voice.

At the end of the day, if you go up to a person and ask them to sing a line from Elvis vs MJ, who will win? MJ being 25 is gotdamn ridiculous.

MJ would win that question all the time. I also think sometimes people forget MJ singing skills even as kid was outrageous due to him focusing on being an entertainer first later in his years with the dancing.

It seems it's SUPPOSE to be a VOCALIST list.

"A panel of 179 experts ranked the vocalists".

Al Green is a greater singer than Michael for sure.

Nat is an easy top 5. For him to not be on the list at all makes the entire list suspect.
