The single payer provision was taken out to ensure passage of the bill after a critical number of Democrats who ultimately voted for the bill made it clear their wouldn't if the single payer provision was kept in. Now I have no doubt that the insurance lobby got to them but you can't blame Nancy because of the actions of some for Democratic representatives who threatened to scuttle the bill. if they didn't get their way. Power politics involves compromise and had she not there would be no ACA.
