Macron has accepted French Prime Minister Barnier's request for the government's resignation, the presidential administration reported.

The day before, the French parliament adopted a vote of no confidence in the government on the initiative of Marine Le Pen's party.

Politico believes that in this way she is trying to “destroy Macron.”

It should be noted that Macron is reaping the fruits of his own decision to dissolve parliament, in which he had a majority and complete control. After the elections, the president lost this majority. And the two largest factions became the opposition left-wing New Popular Front and Le Pen's party (they both have a majority of votes). Macron tried to maintain control over the situation by installing Barnier, a representative of the center-right Republican party, as prime minister, who did not rely on strong support from parliament. But, as we can see, his government did not last long.

Macron now has three strategies to choose from. The first is to try to form a government again without a majority in parliament, risking another vote of no confidence. The other two are to give the prime minister's seat to a representative of one of the two largest factions - the left-wing New Popular Front or Le Pen's party.

No Putin, you are putting UK through this mess not the Ukraine. Also, it hasn’t been a pretty cold winter anyways.

:shades: :roflmao::roflmao:

But anyway

“The public spat between Zelensky and Slovakian Prime Minister Fico continues.

Let us recall that in response to Kiev’s refusal to extend the transit of Russian gas, Fico threatened to stop supplying electricity to Ukraine.

Today, Zelensky responded to this, accusing Fico of opening a “second front” against Ukraine.

"It looks like Putin has instructed Fico to open a second energy front," Zelensky said”

Russia has already begun cutting gas supplies to Europe via Ukraine on the last day of the transit agreement, Reuters reports.

As a result, gas prices in Europe have risen slightly today.

Reuters writes that the end of transit "will mean the near-total loss of Moscow's once-powerful influence over the European gas market." For Europe, the loss of cheap Russian gas supplies (though it has replaced them with supplies from other sources) has led to a serious economic slowdown, rising inflation, and a worsening cost-of-living crisis.

Ukraine loses about $800 million a year in fees from Russia, and Gazprom will lose about $5 billion on gas sales to Europe via Ukraine.

Let us recall that Shmyhal said that Ukraine would stop transit at 7 am on January 1.

It should be noted that after the cessation of transit, Russian gas supplies to Europe will continue via the Turkish Stream, and liquefied gas will also be supplied by sea. In 2024, according to the Russian government, Russian gas supplies to Europe increased by 20% compared to 2023.”

Man that shit cost them 10x more getting it from other places like USA
I also remembered when Russia sold oil to India for $70 per barrel to bypass the EU sanctions, only for India to then sell the oil back to the EU for $120 per barrel. Guess who had to pay for the extra costs. Myself and other in the EU.

“The disconnection of Ukraine from gas transit is not temporary. The next phase could be the destruction of the country's entire gas transportation system, which for years has treated gas from Russia on the principle of "what I can't eat, I'll nibble on”

“Russian gas transport through Ukraine has ended.”

“In Transnistria, from January 1, 2025 until 12:00, due to the cessation of gas supplies from the territory of Ukraine to Transnistria, gas will be disconnected:”

“Macron admitted that calling early elections was a mistake.

French President Emmanuel Macron has acknowledged that his decision to call early parliamentary elections in June has created greater political instability in the country, Reuters reports.

"Clarity and humility force me to admit that at this stage this decision has created more instability than peace, and I fully acknowledge that," Macron said in a televised address.

He noted that he decided to call early elections after the poor result in the European elections in order to "clarify" the political situation”

Gas prices in Europe have reached their highest level since October 2023, Bloomberg writes.

This came after the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine, amid a cold snap in Europe and after a Norwegian liquefied natural gas plant was shut down due to a compressor failure.

After the end of transit through Ukraine, any disruptions at global LNG export plants directly affect European prices.

This could further accelerate the consumption of gas from European storage facilities, where stocks are already depleting at the fastest rate since 2021.

"While Europe is unlikely to run out of gas this winter, thanks to stockpiles and supplies from other suppliers, traders may find it harder to replenish storage for the next heating season," Bloomberg said

This shit is getting messy

Slovakia's ruling party Smer-SD is ready to support a reduction in aid to Ukrainians who are on Slovak territory in response to Kiev stopping gas transit from Russia .

The Prime Minister and party leader Robert Fico made this statement in a video posted on Facebook.

According to him, the Slovak government will also discuss measures that could be taken as an adequate response to Zelensky's decision to stop gas transit through Ukraine”

German funding of projects in Syria is an irresponsible step

The reason is the unpredictability of the development of the situation in Germany

German funding of projects in Syria is an irresponsible step - 1

A member of the Bundestag from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) faction, Edgar Naujok, believes that the resumption by the German authorities of funding of some humanitarian projects in Syria worth a total of EUR 60 million is an irresponsible step given the unpredictability of the development of the situation in the country.

“It is irresponsible in such an impenetrable situation to distribute German taxpayers' money in Syria without a clear strategy and transparency“, the faction's press service quoted him as saying. “At the same time, there is a great danger that these funds will fall into the wrong hands and ultimately be used to strengthen Islamist groups“, Naujok noted. According to him, “the actions of the German government thus show that it is still completely disconnected from reality“.

Another AfD Bundestag member, member of the Foreign Affairs Committee Markus Frohnmeier, pointed out that political efforts should now be directed at the return to their homeland of all Syrians who have no reason to remain in Germany. “The prospect of providing support to Syria at all is only possible if Syria accepts its citizens from Germany and demonstrates full readiness to assist in their return“, he believes.

At the end of December, German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze announced that Germany had resumed financial support for a number of humanitarian projects in Syria worth a total of EUR 60 million. EUR 25 million will be allocated to projects through the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), EUR 19 million EUR through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Another EUR 6 million will be allocated to support a project by the organization Arche Nova, which runs schools, EUR 7 million will be allocated to a Syrian non-governmental organization implementing projects to reconcile different groups in the country's population, and EUR 3 million will be made available to the UN Special Fund to Support Women's Organizations in Syria.

At the end of November, armed opposition groups launched a large-scale offensive against Syrian army positions in the provinces of Idlib and Aleppo. On December 8, they entered Damascus, after which government forces left the city. Bashar al-Assad resigned as President of Syria and left the country. On December 10, the new Syrian authorities appointed Mohamed al-Bashir as head of the interim government.

“Hungary, according to American media, has agreed not to block the extension of European sanctions against Russia, which expire on January 31.

In return, Budapest will demand a statement from the EU that takes into account Hungary's concerns about "energy security," Politico writes.

Let us recall that Orban demanded the restoration of Russian gas transit through Ukraine as a condition for extending sanctions.

And yesterday, the Hungarian Foreign Minister said that Brussels was ready to abolish the principle of unanimity in voting, but extend sanctions.”
