With my job, they require us to re-cert our criminal record search every 5 years as we work with a vulnerable population in health care. In the past they would send us all a form to fill out saying we OK'd having them process the searches (hundreds at a time) and then just deduct the cost (around $25 or $28) from the next pay period.
I was talking to a friend of mine in the organization earlier this year. Apparently they now send you a link to fill out online and pay, then it gets forwarded / processed.
So there was a decent delay with my friend's criminal record search and he wondered what was going on. Turns out his name was flagged. Someone with the same name or one quite similar is a sex offender. He was asked to come into the station and get fingerprinted. He was like WTF? Knowing full well he's innocent and it's simply an unlucky misunderstanding.
His first name is uncommon, and his last name (Filipino) is nearly 15 letters long. He was saying to me - "Man ... what are the odds? I'm the only person I know with my first name, and you don't see my last name too often."
They sure better note in the system that he is NOT the guy. Doesn't want to be dealing with this shit again in 5 years with the next crim' record check process. Caused him a good amount of stress, despite 100% being not the person in question.
