Germany for the first time on Friday recognised it had committed genocide in Namibia during its colonial occupation, with Berlin promising financial support worth more than one billion euros to aid projects in the African nation.

German colonial settlers killed tens of thousands of indigenous Herero and Nama people in 1904-1908 massacres—labelled the first genocide of the 20th century by historians—poisoning relations between Namibia and Germany for years.

While Berlin had previously acknowledged that atrocities occurred at the hands of its colonial authorities, they have repeatedly refused to pay direct reparations.

“We will now officially refer to these events as what they are from today’s perspective: genocide,” said Foreign Minister Heiko Maas in a statement.

He hailed the agreement after more than five years of negotiations with Namibia over events in the territory held by Berlin from 1884 to 1915.

Namibia and Botswana discovered huge reserves of crude
oil in the Kalahari Desert recently...

They also are saying that in the Okavango Delta bounded by
Zambia, Angola and Botswana there are 120 billion barrels
of oil and natural gas. Do not let these arrogant Nazis fool
you by dangling a measly $1 billion

Another 11 billion barrels have been found in one area of
the sea coast of Namibia. Production from which will start
in about 3-4 years

I know it's something , but 1 billion euros...... fuck outta here !
thats just buying dinner but its a start.

they can use it to make a fuck colonizers museum, history of cacery
83 percent of population, and just 1 billion. That's another insult.
They are not doing it because they suddenly feel obligated to compensate
anyone. They are doing it because Namibia has (so far) discovered oil and
gas in amounts that surpass Nigeria's. They want their hands in that oil
and know that the amounts of profit they will get will far exceed the little
$1billion they are offering.

85% of the Narma and Herero. I have written about this many times on this forum.
They then raped the women, and changed the appearance of the offspring. I saw
the Herero and Narma women when they were in exile during the liberation war.
Many now look like Beyonce's young sister.. and were known to be very "kind"

As everywhere in Africa, there was a war, the Herero fought for their land

Gewald, J.B.(1994)The great General of the Kaiser

On the 12th of January 1904 a full-scale war broke out in what was then German South West Africa (present-day Namibia) between the Herero-speaking people of Namibia and imperial Germany. The war culminated in the issuing of the 'Vernichtungsbefehl', or extermination order, by the supreme commander of the German troops in German South West Africa, General Lothar von Trotha, in October 1904. The order stated that all Herero men in German territory were to be shot or expelled. Recently, a number of authors have sought to deny the existence, or at least downplay the implications, of the 'Vernichtungsbefehl'. However, research conducted in the Botswana National Archives, where the authentic text of the order is held, as well as in other places, has brought to light evidence which conclusively proves the existence of the 'Vernichtungsbefehl' and a conscious commitment on the part of the German colonial authorities to ensure the implementation of the order. The paper presents a copy of the original document by Trotha, written in Otjiherero, as well as a literal transcription and an English translation. App., bibliogr., notesShow less

General Lothar Von Trotha Extermination Order against the Herero
source
Gewalt, Jan-Bart, trans. (1999). Herero Heroes. Oxford, U.K.: James Currey. See pages 172–173. Also available from Namibian National Archives Windhoek, ZBU (Zentralbureau) D.1.a Band 3–4, leaf 165.

introduction The order given by General Lothar von Trotha is one of the first documented instances of a policy of genocide. The order was ruthlessly carried out and resulted in the extermination of nearly 90 percent of the Herero. The descendants of the the survivors are seeking reparations for the genocide.

October 2, 1904
I the great General of the German troops send this letter to the Herero people.

The Herero are no longer German subjects. They have murdered and stolen, they have cut off the ears, noses and other body parts of wounded soldiers, now out of captain will receive 1000 Mark, whoever delivers Samuel will receive 5000 Mark. The Herero people must however leave the land. If the populace does not do this I will force them with the Groot Rohr [cannon]. Within the German borders every Herero, with or without a gun, with or without cattle, will be shot. I will no longer accept women and children, I will drive them back to their people or I will let them be shot at.

As I tell you people, Southern Africa was freed by war. The war ended in
1990 after Namibia got independence, or 86 years after it started in 1904

until the bitter end in 1990
