The United States has announced new sanctions against some West Bank settlers who receive funding from the Israeli government.

The sanctioned group is Hashomer Yosh, which provides security for illegal settler settlements.

Israel's prime minister promised a "direct discussion" with US officials about the decision taken.

"Israel views with the utmost severity the imposition of sanctions on the citizens of Israel," Netanyahu said.

Relatives of Israeli hostages held in the Gaza Strip protested near the border on Thursday, demanding a deal to secure their release and at one point trying to cross into the coastal enclave.

"We were trying to get into Gaza to get the hostages back. Our relatives. Our military prevented us, they are trying to defend us and protect us. But the hostages are not protected there," one protester said.

"We have to sign a deal now and get all the hostages back. And we are calling on our prime minister: if he can't do it, we will go in and bring them back ourselves. Bring them home now."

The IDF officers were unanimous against it, Bibi just told them to do it anyway, if the Jenin Brigades can really bring that fight , it’s going to be interesting

A senior Israeli official told The Times of Israel that Netanyahu is running the risk of blowing up the hostage negotiations.

The proposal he backed still calls for the IDF to withdraw from the Philadelphia Corridor after the first phase, the source says.

This is not about permanent control of the Philadelphia [corridor]. It is about six weeks,” the official adds, referring to the length of the first phase of the three-phase ceasefire being negotiated.

“The security establishment still believes that we can return to the Philadelphia Corridor if necessary, even after we withdraw,” the official says, adding that the area will be “sterile” and equipped with sensors and other security measures to prevent weapons smuggling.

Other senior officials said the talks are “on the verge of collapse” and accuse the government of managing the negotiations based on “political considerations.”

Nearly half a million people took to the streets of Israel to join protests against Netanyahu, aiming to push for a deal to return the hostages.

Police clashed with some protesters on the Ayalon Highway, as they tried to clear the road. Some threw stun grenades at the demonstrators.

According to an Israeli official, Netanyahu is "concerned" by these protests.

The head of the Christian political party Lebanese Forces on Sunday accused Hezbollah of dragging the country into a war with Israel without consulting the people.

In a speech attacking the Shiite Muslim group, Samir Geagea, who heads the main Christian bloc in parliament, accused Hezbollah of "confiscating the Lebanese people's decision on war and peace, as if there were no state".

The clashes are "a war that the Lebanese people reject, but has been imposed on them", Geagea said in a speech to supporters north of Beirut.

"It is a war that the Lebanese people do not want and over which the government has had no say. This war does not serve Lebanon, it has brought nothing to Gaza, nor alleviated its suffering one iota."

"This war, in which Hezbollah is engaged, must stop before it brings about a major war that will spare no one," Geagea said.

I’ve known US citizens to go there and serve so that they can/will have dual citizenship. He could’ve just been there to be with friends just as much as he could’ve been there for duty.
