IT Question: Was issued a new Mac and never used it, It has security software on it. Can it be reimaged for personal use?

If it came from your employer then I would expect the Mac to be registered to DEP. An admin would have to release it otherwise it’s just going to reenroll into mdm

So it’s possible by using these steps? Do you know how long it takes?
The video is saying that *if* it's already registered it's actually impossible because it will just be registered back to the company's dep on each attempted. Only way to truly findout is to try a fresh os install and see what happens.

if it has something like "Computrace" installed on it....(like which we did at a company i used to work at).
We installed in on all of our machines, mac and PC, in the event that a machine was stolen or compromised.
It allowed us to track it, as well as remote wipe the device. Computrace is installed in the Bios, so even if it was reimaged, it will still be there.
We could only track and remote wipe it if the device happened to get online. But if one were to stay offline the entire time, then thats the only way it could be used. But as soon as its connected to the internet, the remote wipe is triggered and u basically gotta start all over with reimaging it again....lol.
The only way around it altogether, would be to replace the motherboard.
