Been many times. Too many foreigners now. They own every damn thing. They’re hiring their own or mistreating the natives. When there’s no jobs or no way out they turn on each other. Every island on my favorites list has too many damn Indians and Asians or Arabs.
Too many foreigners as a reason for this is a cop out. Jamaica is a bit safer now than it was in the 70's and 80's according to reports and locals
The main thing is Jamaica, as a society, is still ridiculously dangerous. I was in Kingston a few months ago and literally
EVERYTHING is built around just trying to stay safe. Some examples:
1. Drivers had to be vetted constantly, and paid extra to not leave while you did things.
2. You were implored around 3-4 pm that if you were out you needed to go back to your hotel as you could not be out when the sun went down(which was like 5 PM)
3. Dont wear certain colors so that people did not think you were affiliated with a certain political party.
4. Armed security everywhere checking bags as you go in(and out) to even the most basic of stores.
^^^These 3 have nothing to do with coolies or Chinese people being there. In fact I saw more dark skinned people, which is literally the vast vast vast majority of the island, in positions of leadership at the Chinese super markets and Arab ran hotels(S for example) than I ever saw in places "
Ran by the natives". Constant Springs golf club for example is clearly paper bag testing people. The "
darkies" were only there to carry bags, and it literally felt like being at a Howard University social club where the Rock Newmans and Kamala Harris of the world sit about and pontificate about how hard it is to be the gifted of god's miserable children. Had some fake ass obese chico debarge looking motherfucker literally try to lecture me about being too nice to my caddy because after a day of playing some rounds and him lugging my bags around in the sun as I stunk up the place with my playing I gave him the largest bill in circulation(5000, which is like 30 USD. The country is poor but not as poor as many others where you are safe to walk). These people view the people they share nationality with as subhuman. It was the same way uptown where everybody lives behind gates.
Now I've been all through Africa so I know what poverty is, but in Jamaica its a complete different ball game to everywhere outside of maybe South Africa? You go to Kenya and see poverty but not have to hide. You cant even walk around Kingston without people literally begging you to go away for your own safety. Nobody trusts anybody, and you have to listen because you see the murder rate, you see all the warning the US consulate gives you, and then you see the stares. I had a weeping woman tell me I have to leave for my own safety when attempting to walk a few blocks to a museum after a presentation at the Grace Kennedy building.

This has nothing to do with foreigners.
