The drama between the former Washington Wizards NBA All Star and current Chinese league baller, Gilbert Arenas, and his ex-wife, Basketball Wives LA star, Laura Govan reached a fever pitch yesterday after Arenas accused her of lying about him giving her an STD.
Arenas took to Instagram yesterday to rant about his ex, claiming he leaked the lies simply to damage his reputation. He filed a lawsuit against Govan, and, turns out, the court agrees with him.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge William Fahey denied Govan's claim to dismiss Arenas' libel case, which stated that he believed Govan intentionally leaked emails accusing Arenas of infecting her with STDs in order to embarrass the former All-Star. Judge Fahey ordered Govan's answers be thrown out because she refused to respond to questions from Arenas, including questions about her sex life.
Govan had filed what is known as an "anti-SLAPP motion," which argued that Arena's lawsuit should be tossed because it was frivolous and violated her right to free speech. She argued that things like names of her former sex partners violated her privacy. But the judge ruled that Govan's refusal to respond to Arenas' questions essentially proved she leaked the emails to cause Arenas harm.
The judge wrote on May 27th, "She has no likelihood of prevailing at trial." Adding, "Her request to take judicial notice is denied. Moreover, because of her discovery violations, the court has deemed that the defendant has admitted that she wrote and disseminated the offending email, that it contained a false accusation about STDs and that defendant’s intent was to publicly embarrass and humiliate plaintiff.”
Arenas recently went on a social media tirade, blasting Govan for the STD related claims, adding that he is now "26-0 vs baby mama" in court, and even claiming that she owes him $3 million in court fees and damages.
Arenas and Govan continue to prove that the former lovers hold no punches when it comes to throwing each other under the bus, so this story is likely far from over.
