Teen in serious condition after Joppatowne High School shooting, suspect in custody
HARFORD COUNTY, MD (WBFF) —
A teen is in serious condition and a suspect is in custody after a shooting at Joppatowne High School in Harford County, Maryland on Friday afternoon.
Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler said the school resource officer and principal responded to a fight in the first floor bathroom at the school.
Gahler said a weapon was fired and struck the victim.
The suspect, a 16-year-old, fled the bathroom and the school, but was later put in police custody.
The victim, a 15-year-old boy, was airlifted to a nearby trauma center.
Gahler says the teen will be charged in this incident and the investigation is ongoing.
Harford County Public Schools sent an email to all Joppatowne High School families and the community.
This is an important message for our Joppatowne High School community. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office has responded to the school for an isolated incident on campus today. There was a fight on campus to known parties. A weapon was brought onto campus and used in the incident. The HCSO and HCPS are working together to get this information to you.
