That's a nice job.. $32 a hr in Cali, is that enuf??

well...they are payin' YOU $32 an hour..to train YOU...how to do the job...

it's like goin' to college but instead of payin' $50 grand a year...you're gettin' paid $50 grand a year..

oh..and you get raises every year...till you reach the maximum salary...which is like $38 an hour...

and then once you complete the training course...they give you an advisory exam...you pass it...you get promoted...now you're making $40-45 an hour...

and you get offered all kinds of overtime...and most of it is voluntary...so you can pick and choose when you wanna work..

with all the overtime...you can make over a $100 grand a year...

and this is just to get your foot in the door...once you're in...you can maneuver around...take different tests...apply for higher payin' jobs...

if you have a college degree...you can qualify for some of the management jobs...

Oh I hear ya.. I was just wondering if $32 an hour, is enuf for that part of Cali. I know housing is costly out there!! A 2000sq ft house in Cali could run a person up to a million and we're talking a basic house... That's what I'm asking about!! You can make $50hr in certain parts of this country and ur ass is still eating noodles and drinking kool aid!!!

oh...your $32 an hour...will go further...because they deduct 0 dollars for healthcare and dental care...if you're single...and i think if you're married too...

and you pay nothing for doctor's visits...hospital stays...emergency room visits...ambulance rides....and $5 for prescriptions...

you have access to a credit union...and if you need a car loan....they'll not only offer you a loan...they'll help you find the car you're looking for....negotiate the price...and you can pick the car up at the credit union...

they literally have a "car guy".....and all he does is try to find good deals on cars for credit union members...

and there's a bunch of other benefits...things you get for free...or at a nice discount...like movie tickets...etc...

oh...and after 30 years of service...and once you're 65...you can retire...you'll be paid 70% of your highest base salary...for the rest of your life...

black men..18-34..excluding those in prison...still have the highest unemployment rate....so even though no one on here...may need a job...you probably have a cousin..a nephew..a friend..who does...

all you need is a little bit of mechanical aptitude...and a decent work ethic...and you came become a supervisor...i bullshit you not....

there's a bunch of old kats...gettin' ready to retire....every month it seems like another cat is retiring...and that jus opens up another spot for someone to move up...and then someone has to move up and take THAT spot..and so on ..and so forth...

and you can still find decent homes out here...

if having a big home is really important to you...that doesn't cost over a million dollars...and you still want to be close to Los Angeles...you can move to San Bernadino...or Long Beach...or Santa Clarita...

Neighborhoods are relatively safe...decent schools...

i wouldn't wanna live directly in LA anyways...too much traffic...too expensive.....

but when i need to get to LA...i'm only 30 minutes away....

Gotcha, I have no idea about the LA area, beside what you hear about!!

Sound like a good job for a young bro, just getting out of the military or a 2yr trade college!!!

Good post!!

The younger generation isn't trying to do this shit :smh: I tried to recruit my friend's daughter who was 26 for a state job making 21 dollars a hour. She told me she can't work a job that requires her to show up for work on the regular. I thought she was joking so her mother and I filled out her application. She skipped her interview. She works at KFC now. :smh:

yea...some younger cats may shit on a job like this....until like 5-10 years from now....

cats i work with who have been with the department for a while....they aren't buyin' homes...they're buyin' RANCHES...and buying apartment buildings...and BUILDING their own homes...

they drive luxury cars...have boats...and jet skis...

and you get a gang of vacation time...

this one cat...who has family in the phillipines....literally every year....spends like 4-6 weeks in the phillipines...EVERY YEAR!!

and another cat who worked for DWP like 10 years ago..and left...found out the grass wasn't greener....and was desperate to get back in... luckily he left in good standing....but he had to jump through all the same hoops all over again...

sometimes you have to look past the salary...which in this case ain't even that bad...all things considered....

Not all government gigs are golden.

Once you leave, you might not have skills that are useful to the private sector.

If will work...

Cali is bad but not that bad. 66k before overtime on a city job will carry u

The median income is still around 44k or so in LA county
Right. L.A tends to be over sensationalized at times.

I stay in the San Fernando Valley and my annual salary as a 2nd year special ed teacher is 57K.

Not a lot of money whatsoever but I got side hustles.

Live and maintain.

The post says 55k a yr that aint $32 and hr

i went on the DWP employee website looked up the DDR number...and looked at the wage for a Step 1 ESO trainee....and it said $32 an hour...

that's the most accurate pay scale...they have....

the HR dept...for some reason...doesn't use this information...or maybe they just calculate salaries a different way...

but when i first got hired...they also provided me with the wrong salary info also....i mean it wasn't way off...but it was off by a couple dollars per hour....

Shit on it why? Sounds like a good gig

that was in response to a previous reply about the younger generation not wanting to do jobs like these....

but what they don't realize is..and what i'm tryna convey is...yes there is work to be done....but there's also alot of down time....

some days...you can be there 8 hours...and nothing will be goin' on....for instance on the weekends...or on graveyards...etc...

so it's not like you're doin' backbreaking work for 8 hours straight...most of the time..you're in the control room reading manuals...tryna learn more about how the equipment and the system works...

and like i mentioned earlier...if you have any hustle about you...you'll promote quick...cuz alot of cats once they become permanent...kinda become de-motivated....and stop learning...and stop taking the promotional exams...

some guys make supervisor in 8 years (thats like 4 promotions)...some guys remain plant equipment operators for 25 years...

and the promotions...are about as fair as they can make them...cuz they give exams (written and sometimes practical)...and the people with top scores get promoted first...

they want hard-working people....unfortunately it's really hard to get rid of the lazy ones....

I think I said this before, but my Pops started there, ended up a manager, sent three children to college (one ivy league) and when he passed, my mother got his pension till she passed. It's not a bad gig. You can support a family on this, or you can stay fucking broads and be a bachelor till you die. Don't let the schooling deter you brothers.
