A brand-new Miami Heat dancer was killed when the motorcycle she was riding collided with a car, The Miami Herald reported.

Nancy G. Lopez-Ruiz, a 22-year-old native of Nicaragua, had just signed on for her first season as a Heat dancer.

Nancy G. Lopez-Ruiz, 22, of Plantation, Fla., was riding her 2003 Suzuki GSX R in Fort Lauderdale when the crash occurred at 9:30 p.m. Friday.

According to police, Mario Careaga of Fort Lauderdale had been driving his 2009 Mercedes behind Lopez-Ruiz. The car hit a median, then struck the motorcycle, knocking Lopez-Ruiz off the bike. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police opened a drunk driving investigation of Careaga, whose age was not known, The Herald reported.

Lopez-Ruiz had just signed on to dance with the Heat this season.

Eric Woolworth, president of business operations for the Heat, called Lopez-Ruiz ‘‘a lovely young woman with an upbeat personality."

Lopez-Ruiz, a native of Nicaragua, moved to the United States as an infant and graduated from high school in Bradenton, Fla.

I heard she was riding WITHOUT a fucking helmet. What the hell is it with the South and their lack of helmet laws. :smh:

In Florida, the law requires that all riders younger than 21 years wear helmets, without exception. Those 21 years and older may ride without helmets only if they can show proof that they are covered by a medical insurance policy.

MOTHER REMEMBERS, MENTIONS DAUGHTER'S EERIE PREMONITION

Nancy G. Lopez Ruiz was about to realize a dream by becoming a dancer for the Miami Heat basketball team. Instead, her life was cut short after an accident over the weekend that killed the beautiful 22-year-old, a native of Nicaragua who had just recently traveled back to the country where she was born to meet her mother’s parents.

Her mom shared her memories of her daughter with the Miami Herald yesterday, including what seemed her daughter’s eerie premonition of her death.

Adela Lopez says her daughter insisted on taking the trip to Nicaragua last month, telling her, “I have to do it before I die.” Adela said her parents organized a town-wide celebration of Nancy’s life over the weekend, when they learned of her death.

Other memories a heartbroken Aldela Lopez shared of her daughter:

She left Nicaragua when she was 1.

Lopez Ruiz won a national aerobic dancing when she was 9.

She was a beauty pageant contestant.

She rode a 2003 Suzuki GSX R motorcycle, which is what she was on when she died.

She was supposed to start her new job with the Heat this fall.

Damn shame man... :smh: RIP to the young lady.

And just what is medical insurance going to do for somebody that crashes on a bike without a damn helmet :smh::confused: Rules like that make no damn sense at all.

...
Where was the premonition with regard to wearing a helmet? "I need to put on a helmet-- my head isn't made of adimanium."

Beautiful girl.

No need for helmet laws for grown folks, if you want to get your essence scraped of the ground, ride with the wind blowing through your hair.

The main reason I don't ride bikes isn't because of helmets though, it's because of the humanoids driving the 3,000lb weapons and not paying attention to what they are doing. Bad enough risking driving around them in a car.

RIP to her.

I got on the highway last week and saw two guys stunting on their bikes , popping wheelies at 65mph and what not. Next thing you know at least one of them laid it down. all I saw was a body flying then sliding with the bike breaking up and folks slamming on their brakes trying avoid hitting them. I dont know how bad it was because i didnt stop but at least one of them had one of those mohawk helmets on.
