Joe Budden Calls Out Charlamagne Tha God For His ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ Comment

It has been awhile since Joe Budden sparked controversy from something he said during his popular podcast. But the Slaughterhouse member may have caused his latest firestorm by referring to fellow podcaster Charlamagne Tha God as an idiot.

During “I’ll Name This Podcast Later Episode 53,” Budden took issue with something Charlamagne tweeted after Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly lost the Album Of The Year Grammy award to Taylor Swift’s 1989. The co-host of the Brilliant Idiots podcast took aim at individuals that were initially critical of Kendrick’s platinum certified LP but expressed frustration the project did not win the trophy for AOTY.

Budden responded:

I’m on record saying that Kendrick album is not for me. I still feel like that Kendrick album is not for me. It’s not something I’m going to wake up and play. It’s not something that I’m going to get in my car and play. However, I’m objective enough to be able to recognize that it’s probably one of the better Hip Hop albums ever released. There’s a difference there.

So now let’s talk to the idiots. Charlamagne Tha God – and we’re going to call you an idiot, because lord knows you’ve said enough about me on your show. You’re still my n*gga, but that ain’t gonna stop this idiot moment from talking to you.

He’s smarter than that. He’s one of the smarter people in radio, but when he says something real stupid, somebody’s got to call him out on it. Because he has such a large outlet, when he’s stupid, all the stupid people become even dumber…

Charlamagne, you can’t understand black people – who may not like that music – wanting to support one of their own at the top of the genre in that circle, in that venue, on that platform, and want to see him do well because of the message that he’s speaking?

I’m sure you understand that, because you have your f*cking Black Panther moments too. So I don’t get why we can’t support Kendrick, want to see him win ,and want to see him do well, even if that album may not be for us or for me. Those two are totally separate statements for me.

Buddens is on point like a tattle tell hear......... Cole shouldve won best rap album...Y? becuz it was just that.... THE BEST RAP ALBUM from last year......... no features no nothing.... Full disclosure here:

I really wasnt too crazy about the album neither, couldnt get into it musically but I do appreciate the creativity and the passion and his growth. For that reason I got a few favorite joints I keep on repeat. He gets the ultimate respect from me regardless. Money well spent.

After hearing GKMC so many times then hearing TPAB I was thrown off. Like B Witty said, I listened to it once and that was it. Maad City still gets heavy play till this day!

I salute K Dot for making that album though. Took balls to go in the direction he went after making such a classic 1st album.

I have tried my best to get down with Kendrick. I want to because I know that the brother is talented, but I just can't get into it. I understand wher Joe Budden is coming from.

I love(d) TPAB, but have only listened to it a couple times and some of the songs a few times. To me, it was more like a movie experience than a musical experience. It's not an album I would just throw on for all willy nilly, but on occasion I might break it out to enjoy in full. Same thing with The Love Below. Joe Budden is right.

That butterfly album is wack and I said it all in the thread when it came out. The first one was way better.

People hated Marvin-What's going on, people hated Prince-Sign of the times, shit I know D'Angelo fans that still HATE voodoo, some hated Jay Z the Black album. When an artists makes complicated music, with more levels of emotion and social impact, that stretches too far past the current paradigm, fans take a little times to appreciate it. Just the way it goes. Budden makes weird emotional music, so im surprised as a lyricists he did not appreciate PimP for that alone, but it's his opinion.

Charlemagne is correct in his criticism of the hypocrisy though. If you like pop shit-Drake and home thug rap, don't get mad when Taylor Swift makes these record every few years of bubbles gum bullshit and cleano up the white grammy awards. She has more album of the year awards the Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin...lol .

The one thing keeping me from fully embracING kdot music is his voice.

I know I'm the only one but many times I just can't understand what he is saying clearly.

But his passion delivery and voice are great I just can't make out the damn words.

It's better for me now, but really makes me frustrated with his music. Because when I CAN understand he is awesome.

Btw....

Get well soon jay rock

Man how can you talk about this shit ain't for you and you don't like the album but be mad about it not getting album of the year or even worse be mad that other people call you out on the hypocrisy of it all? J. Cole album was nicer. Hell Wale's shit was nicer. Big Sean's shit was nicer. I can appreciate the music. I can appreciate what Kendrick did but musically.....I wasn't a fan of it. But Joey just looking for a argument. Argumentative bitch man....but shit he got company with chatty patty because he one too.
