Russian President Vladimir Putin Russia proposed the creation of a BRICS grain exchange, which could later be expanded to trade other major commodities, President Vladimir Putin said in opening remarks to a summit of leaders of the BRICS countries on Wednesday.

"BRICS countries are among the world's largest producers of grains, legumes, and oilseeds. In this regard, we proposed opening a BRICS grain exchange," Putin told the leaders.

He added that the exchange "will contribute to the formation of fair and predictable price indicators for products and raw materials, considering its special role in ensuring food security".

"The implementation of this initiative will help protect national markets from negative external interference, speculation, and attempts to create an artificial food shortage," Putin said.

A separate platform could be set up to trade precious metals and diamonds, Putin said.

In his speech, Putin also referred to the creation of a BRICS investment platform, which will facilitate mutual investment between BRICS countries and could also be used for investment in other countries in the Global South.

What Should Forex Traders Expect?

Although the timeline and specifics of a BRICS currency remain uncertain, its potential effects on forex markets are undeniable. Traders should be prepared for increased volatility, especially in emerging market currencies, and be ready to adjust their strategies as the world moves toward a more multipolar financial system. The USD may still dominate in the short term, but the landscape is changing—potentially faster than we expect.

In the coming months, the forex world will be watching closely as the BRICS summit unfolds, and traders would do well to stay informed and agile in the face of these developments.

Trading one superpower for another.

Economically Russia is not now a superpower.

But they got the nukies

Russia's economy ranks 11th in the world by nominal GDP, and 4th by GDP (PPP):

Nominal GDP
In 2024, Russia's GDP was $2.24 trillion, ranking it 11th in the world. However, Russia's GDP is volatile due to its currency exchange rate.

GDP (PPP)
In 2021, Russia became the 4th largest economy in the world by GDP (PPP). PPP measures the output of economies and the welfare of their inhabitants in "real" terms.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reportedly paid an unofficial visit to Donald Trump’s residence in Florida.

This was reported by the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, citing sources.

Neither Trump nor NATO has officially confirmed the visit.

Earlier, The Washington Post wrote that the NATO Secretary General intended to discuss Ukraine strategy with the Republican in the near future.

According to the publication, Rutte’s goal was to convince Trump that peace must be "just," meaning it should account for the interests of Kiev and the Alliance as a whole.

The report also mentioned that Rutte would attempt to persuade Trump that an "unfavorable" agreement could harm his position during a second presidential term.

Notably, after Rutte’s visit to Trump, information emerged about Richard Grenell being appointed as a negotiator on Ukraine. Grenell opposes Ukraine's accession to NATO

The Global South & Russia won't be a slave to The Dollar anymore, it's over. A new world is being birthed now, a world that's Multi-Polar and not Uni-Polar. The West's time to rule is coming to quick end & The West cannot accept so they would rather have a World War III then accept that the Global South and Russia have moved on.

Since white folks only make up 7% of worldwide population, all nonwhite countries should just say they're against white supremacy, and the US dollar is what's propping it up...

Thailand moves towards BRICS membership.

The country's cabinet has approved a decision to accept the invitation extended to it at the BRICS summit in October, the Bangkok Post reports.

Membership could be approved as early as June.

Bangkok believes that membership in the organization, led by Russia and China, will boost its trade, investment, food and energy security, and "help enhance Thailand's role in promoting international cooperation and multilateralism."

Thailand is currently one of the 13 official BRICS partner countries.
