Coaching is all about MAKING ADJUSTMENTS.
Just because a 'drive & kick offense' beat all the Eastern Conference teams... does NOT necessarily mean that it will beat the best team in the Western Conference.
A coach has to be able to ADAPT.
The whole "LBJ wants to play this type of offense" comment is not really the issue.
- Sometimes the opponent puts out a BIG lineup... so maybe you 'go SMALL' to take advantage of playing at a faster tempo, so you can outscore the other team in transition & get the big men tired... so they will make 'mental mistakes' like 'turnovers' & 'silly fouls'.
- Sometimes you play more ZONE DEFENSE than man-to-man.... to make the other team shoot more 'long jumpers'... if they cannot shoot well from the perimeter.
- Whatever changes a Coach SHOULD be making... you make them... if you really want to win.
- Or you keep running the same offense... and shooting bricks.
Honestly, the problem is not really the offense. 'The O" is running as intended.
The real problem is 'shot selection'.
Its not the 'drive & kick offense' that is not working... it's what happens IMMEDIATELY whenever the ball gets kicked out.
What does that recipient do with it? They settle for a bad shot.

Yep. This is the other understated thing. Players like Delly might have been trash offensively but he played hard ass fuck on the perimeter. It's one of those role players that's a meaningful loss....might not show up on the stat sheet though.

Naw. Melo would have helped, easily. Cavs have no players that can play in the post. At the end of games, that's the easier way to get good looks. Cavs are a good shooting team but they're streaky team. Irving, SMith, etc are streaky 3 point shooters... Warriors are really the only team that can depend solely on jump shooting because they're the best shooting team ever.
