Draymond Green calls James Dolan's treatment of Charles Oakley 'a slave-owner mentality'

“The man is a legend. Treat him as such. First off, this is Charles Oakley. Why is he buying a ticket to the game? If I’m not mistaken, Dolan owned that team when he was playing. It wasn’t a problem when he was speaking out then. It wasn’t a problem when he was protecting their superstars then. So, if it wasn’t a problem then, when he was doing it for y’all, why is it all of a sudden now when he’s speaking out on something he don’t like? And now you want to disown him from your entire organization?

“That’s a slave mentality. You’re doing it for me, it’s all good, but now you’re doing it against me — or not necessarily against me, but you’re speaking out against my organization — it’s not good anymore? That’s a slave mentality — a slave-master mentality. That’s ridiculous.

“It was all fine and dandy when he was laying people out, taking fines and all this stuff for your organization, but now all of a sudden when he says something that he feels, it’s a problem. I disagree with that. I definitely think, like I said, that that’s a slave-master mentality.”

Draymond Green said the courtside fan went over the line, ordering them around: "This ain't the aincient times. Slave days are over."

“Melo hasn’t done anything wrong there,” added Green, Anthony’s Olympic teammate. “Obviously, Melo’s gotten a little older and he’s slowed down a little bit, but he’s carried himself in the best way possible. He’s continued to play through bum knees and all types of stuff and continued to play at a high level, and yet he’s going through all this stuff. I just don’t know how you can do that to someone.”

Then, Green dropped perhaps the most damning statement of all about the damage Jackson and Dolan have done these last few weeks to the Knicks’ already dissatisfactory reputation in the NBA:

“When you look at what’s going on now, with the Melo situation in their organization and now how you do a legend in Charles Oakley,” he said, “I don’t know a free agent that would want to go there.”

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green said New York Knicks owner James Dolan operates with a "slave master mentality" by taking issue with Charles Oakley's criticisms after the organization benefited from his contributions as a player.

"You doing it for me, it's all good," Green said on his "Dray Day" podcast on Uninterrupted. "You doing it against me -- you speaking out against my organization -- it's not good anymore? That's a slave mentality. A slave master mentality. That's ridiculous.

"It was all fine and dandy when he was laying people out, taking fines and all this stuff for your organization. But now, all of a sudden, when he says something that he feels, it's a problem."

Green added that the organization's handling of Oakley and Phil Jackson's indirect and direct criticisms of Carmelo Anthony will impact the club in free agency.

"When you look at what's going on now with the Melo situation in their organization and now how you do a legend in Charles Oakley, I don't know a free agent that would want to go there. I don't know someone who would really want to go there."

Green was operating under the assumption that Dolan owned the Knicks when Oakley played for them, which is inaccurate. Dolan took over operations of the club after Oakley was traded from the Knicks.

Oakley was ejected from Madison Square Garden and arrested after an altercation with arena security on Feb. 8. The Knicks said Oakley was ejected after being verbally abusive to security; Oakley, who was charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault for his physical confrontation with security, denies the Knicks' version of events.

Dolan banned Oakley indefinitely from the arena two days after the incident, but he lifted the ban on Tuesday after meeting with Oakley and commissioner Adam Silver, with Michael Jordan joining by conference call.

Oakley told ESPN later on Tuesday that he's still upset over Dolan's public claim that he has a drinking problem and that he wouldn't accept the Knicks' invitation to a future home game.

Prior to Wednesday's incident, Dolan and Oakley had been at odds, in part, over Oakley's public criticisms of the organization. Oakley believes he has been shunned by Dolan and the Knicks for making critical public statements about the organization.

Oakley, a fan favorite, has received support from many current and former players in recent days after the incident at Madison Square Garden.

Green and others have criticized Dolan for suggesting that Oakley has an anger issue or a drinking problem.

"That's not something that you say to the world. That's not classy at all," Green said on his podcast. "It's not OK for you to go say to the world as a multibillion-dollar organization."

Green explained later in the podcast, "How can you even pin that on someone? Even if he does or doesn't, to the world now, people think he has an alcohol problem. How can you pin that on someone? Just throw that out there like that's no big deal. That's grimy. I think that's wrong."

....Its not like Oakley didn't know and he comes from that generation of players where they think their all special and that their opinions are worth more than gold. They were the rock star's....light's camera's action whether you played or sat on the bench.

Charles,C.Malone,Jordan....it's a hard pill to swallow when someone tell's you to shut the fuck up,sit down or get out.

interesting responses.

somehow green wrong tho

People were saying Dolan was acting like a slave master?

I just can't see it. Was Dolan wrong yes, but any other business nobody would say it's slavemaster shit. If I buy a business after you worked for that business and you say disparaging things about how I run my business then most people dam near 99% would say dont come to my business then.

I can agree with all that. Still don't see it as slave master, but from Oakleys mouth he's always been treated less than bad when comes to the Knicks game. So why keep going and give the man your money?

I don't necessarily see it as slave master but better believe that's what he and phil are acting like and lashing out at people like melo and oakley
people who you can't control the way you want to control and who just listen to what you say.
that's the entire reason they act like that towards those 2.
so what explanation is there other than an ego control issue among white men not liking what a black man has to say?

oakley spoke his peace and he had his security rush him out of the arena on purpose.

phil can't just ditch melo to save his skin so he's been a bitch in the media shitting on melo all year.

Standard message : "you're here to work and entertain us, not have any opinions"

Considering that basic approach to things, what Green had to say is mild.

If you're a retiree you can say what you like. You can't go turn around and cancel his pension cuz you don't like his attitude.

He bought that seat with his own money, Dolan was being a typical CAC, And set Oakley up to be attacked by cops

Yeah I Agree,
I think he deliberately did that shit to show up Oakley and to display to the public an image that what he did to Oakley was not racial.
From what i understand Larry Johnson is still employed by the Knicks so if his boss wants him to fill in a seat or accompany him to the game.
But I betting that Sprewell requested some type of financial compensation to be there because as we all know Latrell "Has to feed his Kids ! " LOL
