Tim Duncan was a center and will be named in the All-Time Centers poll.

Duncan made the All-Star team in 2009, 2010 and 2011 as a forward despite having played almost exclusively at center, according to 82games.com.

Even Spurs coach Gregg Popovich seemed to acknowledge the charade on the eve of last year’s playoff series against Utah. When asked who the Spurs would start at center, Popovich said, “Tim Duncan, like we have for the last 15 years.”
https://uproxx.com/dimemag/gregg-popovich-tim-duncan-center-not-power-forward/2/

Shaquille O’Neal was asked to rank his all time greatest centers in NBA History. He placed Duncan with the best of them and also gave a slight edge to the Spurs great for being a better player than him-based on championships. Duncan has one more than O’Neal (5-4).

“So Bill Russell has to be number one right? He has 11 (titles) right? And then Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar) has six (titles) right? And then who’s next? Anybody have five or four?” (Tim) Duncan got five, I got four. So you know, you just got to go by winning.”

Like many players that have retired from the game, the next step in their careers usually stays around the game. O’Neal not only being an NBA Analyst for TNT also has his own podcast, ironically named “The Big Podcast With Shaq”.
With the debate surrounding people labeling Duncan as “The Big Fundamental”. O’Neal stated on his podcast of the issue he had with the label:

“They’re saying he’s one of the greatest big men. Do you count power forwards as big men? Because I don’t. I was always thought that the big man was a center. I know we got new rules and they don’t have the center spot no more, but no.”

We all know Duncan would finish on the power forward top 4 list if eligible, but it's more interesting (and accurate) to judge him at the position he actually played for most of his career.

If your choice isn't on the list, vote other and post the name. Can't include every conceivable choice. Anyone else left off wasn't finishing top 4 in the poll regardless, so just vote other if that's your hobby horse (or, I suppose, if you very strongly disagree and want to cast a write-in vote for Duncan).

I remember playing fantasy basketball back in the days. Kevin Garnett was a monster. He'd put up crazy numbers in Minnesota every night.

The 2014 OP did not exclude Duncan (as he should have).

So, outside of that, you have Malone, Barkley, Garnett and McHale in 2014. Fiver years later, three remain the same but Dirk jumps from below McHale/Rodman and a tie with Elvin Hayes to the top of the mountain.

Nowitzki certainly did not get better in the last five years. Didn't really bolster his resume. Is this attributable to retirement tour P.R.?

Barkley shouldnt be #1 over Malone either. Your polls became Popularity contests to some. Thanks for showing the 5 year changes.

Yeah, I noticed the Barkley/Malone flip and thought it was weird.

These are small sample sizes and obviously not scientific, but the most interesting aspect of the five year changes to me were Nowitzki and Wade jumping into the top four at their positions after just retiring. I think that shows how recent publicity can have an impact. Barkley has had five more years on TV and is more recognizable than the vast majority of current players, whereas Malone's MVP years are five years further in the rearview mirror.

Your choice Elvin Hayes (surprisingly tied with Dirk five years ago) probably did a lot better ten years ago, and better ten years prior, etc. It would be cool if Elias or ESPN tracked this because I think it's interesting to see how durable legacies are and what influences them.

Karl Malone is prolly the "least likeable" PF. He's a hick some say coon from Louisiana that drives tractor trailers and hunts. He did his kids grimey, his past beefs wit Kobe, Magic, other skeletons, etc. Theres alot of reasons fans never liked him.

But on the court dude is THE greatest power forward ever. 2 MVPs, 14x all star, 11x all NBA 1st team (only Bron has more), most defensive rebounds in NBA history, second all time scorer in NBA history. He never missed the playoffs. 25, 10, 3.5 for 20 years with like 8 games missed that entire span up til his last year. Malone's production and durability is insane. The only knock is that he had some chokeworthy moments vs. the Bulls, but so did Barkley.

Tim Duncan?

so because he played center for three seasons out of a long ass career you listed him as a five. :hmm:

So Anthony Davis and Draymond would be in all time centers list, because they play the five sometimes?

You seem not to have been able to comprehend the rationale laid out in the first post.

Gregg Popovich of the Spurs said Duncan played center for 15 years. Complex of BGOL says Duncan played center 3 years. Guess which I'm going with?

Duncan was power forward and is clearly best so he is number 1 on the Mount,I'll rank 2,3,4 based on that.

2.Malone-I wanted to rank him lower but I have to give credit where credit is due he was a monster player until he played Bulls and he choked time and time again.
3. Sir Charles-Barkley was an unreal player who could dominant. It's hard to believe he was such a great player at PF standing 6'4.
4.Dirk-He won title for Dallas and had the clutch gene. He was KD b4 KD.
