The Afropunk music festival in Brooklyn, New York, kicks off Saturday. Its return is the first since 2019, when COVID-19 canceled the historic music festival. Michelle Miller reports.
This festival fell off big time. It used to be for free at BAM then Barry Commodore Park to accommodate crowd size. It got commercial and large companies jumped in(Essence) and they started to charge for tickets to get in on the money grab and to add stage effects.
It's in BRIC this year and I'm looking at the crowd on social media and it looks dead. The festival had a good run in the late 2000s to the mid 2010s.
