There were a couple shows I have watched where someone is driving they think they hit something and the next day someone is reported dead from a hit and run accident. They think they did it, but at the end of the show it ends up being a dog they hit.

Your Honor (all of the remakes) had a SOMEWHAT similar premise.

Exactly. And the guilty party on their own jury I believe have been done before too.
