The idea for this movie came from one episode of the podcast he does with his buddy, Scott Mosier (SModcast) They sometimes read weird or stupid news stories, and they came across a story about a personal ad where a dude was offering free rent (a room in his house) the only "catch" is that for a few hours a day the person had to dress up in a walrus suit (provided) and pretty much act like a walrus-
in the news story, a bunch of people applied for the "position" and as they are wont to do, Smith and Mosier started riffing (fucking hilarious btw) about how it would be fucked up and creepy, etc... eventually turned into Kevin Smith actually writing a script- which turned into the movie.
From what I understand, (I listen to the podcast) he is now working on another movie based on some shit they talked about on one episode- called Yoga Hosers, and talked about making a third movie called Moose Jaws.
The podcast if funny as shit- all Smith does is blaze up and he /Mosier trip out for an hour a week.

Red State was the shit. No soundtrack, just the sounds of firearms blasting. Cool concept, cool movie. I'm going to watch that again tonight.

I had seen it on Netflix and thought it was ok...
all the podcasts Smith does he's high as fuck, especially Hollywood Babble-on
I was Just About to say this, The older he gets the more he is taking a darker Tone.
I want another Jay And Silent Bob, and he is on "horror porn" mode.
i actually liked Red State...the ending was out there but the performances and that first half hour is ill.
