Comparative for generation id lean yes....probably. Wasnt a global game.. no AAU.. smaller game, everyone went to college... But to be clear i wasnt being as literal as you tend to take things. Moreso both being 7'4 freaks of nature with limitless potential. My bigger point was Dream played with a ALL NBA, MVP caliber big in year one.. Wemby out there with a bunch of clowns and the ghost of Point Gawd.

Fair response.

Half those guys were washed and he has losing records against most the others. Wemby plays in a far more skilled and competitive era. 2 teams won all the dam titles in the 80s.

This discussion prompted me to finally post the 5 year Rushmore reassessment for centers that I meant to post months ago... In 2014 and 2019, the top 3 were the same: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain, in that order. Hakeem Olajuwon and Shaq finished 4th and 5th, each one closely outranking the other once.

I think this is one of the more interesting positions to reassess because Jokić was an unknown five years ago and he's on a lot of people's Mt Rushmore now. I also added Joel Embiid, Karl Anthony Towns and Victor Wembanyama. I think you could make an actual case for Wemby if you assess greatness based on peaks rather than as a cumulative achievement, though I don't expect him to make the top 5 yet. (He's already better than Shaq ever was IMO.) He probably will make it in 5 years though, barring injury.

None of these guys belong in a discussion of Mt Rushmore centers... NONE!!!!

One title in the entire lot.. and we dont even know what fucking position Wemby plays. I sure as hell dont. KAT has never been a top 3 center in his career.. No way in fuck he sniffs a Mt Rushmore discussion. Jokic plays half the court and Embiid plays half the time.

In 1985, Eaton was defensive player of the year, Kareem was finals MVP and second team all NBA, Moses was first team all NBA.

In 1986, his second year, Dream beat Magic and Kareem and the Lakers super team to get to the finals. The fuck has Wemby done to compare to that?

I'm gonna address this in the Rushmore thread since I know it will come up again there.

I don't know how much of the Spurs improvement is attributable to the ghost but this is the most impressive journeyman history ever:

The Spurs are at .514 as of tonight.

Eaton was a 4 ppg white slug in Utah who hunted blocks from white American guards playing in the 80s. He was fucking trash. Mentioning him as some sort of notch on the belt is fucking insanity. Moses was in the East and Kareem was dam near 40.

Wemby entered a global NBA full of talent as a 19 year old on a team filled with G-league talent. Not sure why you're even bringing up Hakeem here.

Wemby entered a global NBA full of talent and you know what his team's record was after his first year?

The same as it was without him.

People are posting stats that he's more stats than lots of the greats of the game had after 100 games. I'm just putting things in perspective.

Maybe unpopular opinion....

I wouldn't be mad if Lebron pulls a Duncan and retires at the end of this season with no fan fare or prior notice.

His statue in the game is more than secure and he's getting to play with his son. That's got to be a dream. Wins or losses be damned for a second.

A player is getting to play with his son. Not just sitting courtside watching his son. Actually getting to play with him.

Lebron should just ride into the sunset at season's end.

No. You're just hating. Perspective would also take things into account like his age, teammates, impact and era. What you're doing is discounting all of that to point to team accomplishments Dream contributed to in years one and two. And you should be careful... because once Sampson started missing games Hakeem couldnt win more than 40something games until the 90s.

Derrick Rose getting the same love from the city of Chicago (jersey retirement, official day, local events in his honor, statue if he wanted it, etc) after NOT winning a championship as Kobe did from LA for winning Jeanie Buss 5 of them, puts things in perspective. Pooh didn't have to throw his old teammates under the bus or be a dick, he just stayed true to himself. Ring culture is so dead!
