Greatest of all time and the greatest scorer of all time. Please stop comparing other legends to him. It's not fair to them at all.

He’s probably not going to hold onto it but it’s a hell of a distinction to have at any point:

Steph>>> Kobe

Imagine two scenarios-- The 1996 draft with Steph Curry and the 2009 draft with Kobe Bryant. Each with the full roster and only adding Steph in 96 and Kobe in 2009.

Very different basketball eras. Knowing everything we know now about each player, who would you take in each situation?

I gotta take Kobe in either case. His scoring is better than anyone in the modern era adjusted for pace and that's without him shooting more threes, as he surely would. If Kobe were drafted in 2009, it would be him in that graphic, not Steph.

Kobe's better on offense and better on defense so it's an easy choice IMO.

I think Steph in 1996 is the more interesting reality to contemplate though... Would he / could he have changed the game back then?

Steph. Not sure how this is even a question. One guy is still playing all NBA ball at age 36 and one was cooked by age 32.

No it wouldnt. Kobe was notoriously inefficient and would be killed by the analytics geeks in this era. MJ was incredibly efficient and a high percentage scorer... And Stephs efficiency is elevated by his deep shooting proficiency and the fact that threes result in 33% scoring increase over twos per shot. Kobe simply was never as efficient as either and was largely a volume guy.

Basically. Kobe played his last playoff game at age 32. He shot below 40% from the field in his age 37 season.

Kobe's game doesn't translate in this era. Nobody plays like him today and is successful, and you're right, analytics and efficiency matter today. Kobe's shot chucking and mid playmaking ability wouldn't stand out at all. Never shot above 50% in any season. Never shot over 40% from 3 in any season. :smh: I'm not saying he'd be trash, but he wouldnt be celebrated nearly as much.

The real reason Day Carver, Bills, and Costanza are scared to say Steph is better has nothing to do with basketball. Both players are bourgeoisie, but Steph being fair skinned and white passing will never elevate him over Kobe marrying into a white Mexican family in California. They're always gonna hold that proximity to whiteness in greater esteem and overrate his basketball legacy. Kobe was the first Black athlete in a high profile interracial marriage with a Latina. Trust me, his fans are well aware of that fact and it's a big part of his aura with them.

Anybody with eyes and who looks at the advanced stats can clearly see Steph is better and lasted longer.

Dumbest shit that can be found online.

That’s saying something in this election year!

Longevity is overrated. If a player is better than anyone else ever will be at 27, nothing an inferior player does to compile stats in his 40s can ever make him better than that 27 year old. The skills outweigh the stats. Being very good for a long time is not equivalent to being the GOAT at your peak.
