Adam Silver was born in 1962 (one year before Michael Jordan) in New York City.
He is a graduate of Duke University '84 (ACC "rival" school of MJ's)
He graduated from the University of CHICAGO Law school in 1988 (who starred for the city's bball team that year?)
He got his start working for the NBA, thru NBA Entertainment, which is the media and marketing arm of the league, serving as it's COO for 8 years beginning in 1992 (who was NBA champ that season?).
Under Silver's guidance, these were the film projects NBA Entertainment created:
Untouchabulls: The 1991-92 Chicago Bulls 1992
NBA Dream Team 1992
Silver Streak: The First 25 Years of the Phoenix Suns 1992
Michael Jordan: Air Time 1993
NBA Jam Session 1993
Three-Peat: The 1992-93 Chicago Bulls 1993
NBA Guts and Glory 1993

Greatest NBA Finals Moments 1999
Like Mike 2002
Michael Jordan appeared in 16 out of 25 of their releases. He had 5 releases by himself, the most of any player, and his team the Bulls had 4, the most of any team.
Silver was the executive producer of Michael Jordan To The Max IMAX film that was released in 2000. He also served as producer for the Like Mike feature film starring Lil Bow Wow and Morris Chestnut about Michael Jordan that was released in 2002.
It's interesting to note NBA Entertainment stopped making videos and highlight films for their players in 2002. One year before MJ retired, and one year before Bron entered the league. How would our perception of 2000's and 2010's players have changed if they werent pressured to be champions and got the fluff promo that the 80's and 90's guys got automatically just for being all stars or flashy dunkers?
Given the fact he's from the same era, born in the same city, attended college in the same conference, and spent his formative years in the league finding ways to mass market MJ to middle America in the 90's, is it surprising the league has been marketed the way it has the last 15 years?
Silver's NOT a basketball guy, he's a marketing guru, so we see him doing all the bells and whistles to draw fans (IST, all star, special jerseys, etc). But the whole holding on to the 90's decade and force feeding Michael Jordan is just as much him as anything. Inside the NBA's antics and all the bashing of today's players is a deliberate attempt to keep Jordan and that 90's era propped up to keep Nike Jumpman's cash flow going. Given his background and direct relation to marketing Jordan thru out his time in the league, it's insane that fans can't see how super biased and unfair Adam has been during his tenure as commissioner to the games greatest player ever. From rules changes to constant negative coverage to the shitty whistle Bron has gotten the last decade, Silver has a vested interest in protecting the work he and his colleagues at that time created.
