Russell won the Celtics 11 championships, but 95% of their fanbase considers Michael Jordan the GOAT.
Sam Jones won the Celtics 10 championships. Never included in greatest shooting guard convos over guys like Wade and Kobe.
Kareem won 5 championships with the Lakers, he is never name dropped or referenced by their current management. Literally forgotten by most modern Laker fans and never referenced.
Magic won 5 championships with the Lakers. Most Laker fans don't hold his basketball legacy in high esteem and criticize him more for his short tenure as the teams GM than they praise his basketball tenure. Not considered the greatest Laker by Laker fans despite 3 Finals MVPs and 3 MVPs.
Michael Jordan won the Bulls and Jerry Reinsdorf 6 championships. Reinsdorf's son who now owns the team is shifting the focus of the franchise AWAY from MJ's legacy towards Derrick Rose, who never won anything for them.
Kobe won the Buss family 5 championships. They repaid him by using him to sell jerseys his last few years, then immediately replaced him with his arch rival and gave him the keys to the franchise for a decade.
Boomers & Gen X don't have a revolutionary spirit and didn't live thru a great war. They've always self identified as corporate employees and strivers. Michael Jordan and guys from the 80s created this bullshit narrative that winning a white billionaire a championship validates you, but all these players with multiple aren't as heralded as they could be. Winning championships does more for NBA owners than players. Even the parades don't mean shit no more. Championship parades the Bulls and Lakers had in the 80s and 90s were iconic and memorable (ex: Pat Riley guaranteeing a 3peat, Rodman at the parade, etc), today's parades are barely seen and quickly forgotten.
I don't care who wins the championship this year, I care about who's gonna put in the most work for their legacy.
